Topic: New Wurly

Hi all,

Did you already saw this:

Re: New Wurly

Thanks for the link! This is indeed interesting although I am a little bit amazed that they haven't introduced a Rhodes emulation first.

There are many modeled electric pianos - the one bundled with Logic for Mac, Lounge Lizard, Mr. Ray (free), GEM, Roland, Pianoteq...

Seems it's easier to recreate an electric piano through modeling rather than an acoustic piano.

Re: New Wurly

no, it's MUCH easier !!!

Re: New Wurly

Well, I downloaded the demo version - btw this the major benefit over sampling, you can test those instruments before buying them! - and to be honest, I am not very convinced...

Is this again a sad example of modeling: thousand of different presets from "funky" to "experimental" but still no single one which is close to instrument which we call Wurlitzer?

Of course this is not fair judgement, I did not give it a real chance. But quite often first impressions are close...

Re: New Wurly

Pianoteq's wurly seems much much better to me.

Hard work and guts!

Re: New Wurly

I think PT's wurly sounds great - especially with the new effects...

just uploaded an fxp:

Re: New Wurly

Just listening to the (Arturia) demos, it sounds pretty good and authentic to me. The main defect I notice so far is the attacks, which unfortunately are very important to get right.   I agree - overall I think Pianoteq's Wurly is better. (so far)

Re: New Wurly

I think Pianoteq's sounds better. That said - I would love to see development continue in this area as well as the acoustic piano emulations.

Re: New Wurly

The best I ever heard (and played) was the Scarbee WEP (samples), but I don't think you can buy this anymore. The samples were very clean with about 16 velocity layers. What really set them apart from anything else I've heard was what happens at high velocities: a very big change in tone to a real barking sound, but still very musical and playable. I'd love to hear this in a modelled wurly. Pianoteq is good, but doesn't quite get there.

Re: New Wurly

Mooks - it appears that it is still available, but they've changed the name to "A-200".
