Topic: k1 quirks in pt4

hi,

first of all, i like pt 4 a lot and enjoy the D4. it feels much like a real big grand and has a nice range of sound colors. (although i would also welcome a non-Steinway sound)

i found a peculiarity in the K1 though. to reproduce, try the following:

K1 Player preset. switch off reverb. play a few notes in the upper bass range C2-C3
go to the microphone settings and deactivate mics 3 and 4. the sound changes quite a bit.
move the mics 1 and 2 further apart, to either end of the keyboard. the sound changes even more and for some notes in the upper bass is now quite weird and similar to a cembalo. the other registers are mostly ok.

this effect for me is only noticeable when the mics 3 and 4 are off.
i tried the same with version 3.6.7 and there everything is fine also with mics 3 and 4 off !?

is this only me imagining this? or is this a bug in the K1 in v4?

I think it might help if you posted a recording to show what you're talking about.
I also found out that the K1 as well as the C3 and M3 have changed its sound quite a bit. The bass notes now have an interesting (metallic?) buzzing sound. Nevertheless I'd appreciate if modartt would make these changes tuneable...

Hi nb,
you are right, there is a bug in the new K1 version, thanks for pointing it (needed good ears to notice it). It will be fixed in the next release (4.0.2).

PS. Glad that you like pt 4 and the new D4.

EDIT. I take the opportunity to mention that when comparing side by side versions 3 and 4, take into account that volume has been reduced in version 4 (more or less 3 dB), and the default reverb has been modified for some of the supported instruments (those that are not legacy).

@Philippe Guillaume,

thanks for looking into it! i only noticed because i had my mics set up in that way from v3.

@sebion

yes, a recording would have been better but now that it's being taken care of i will sit back and relax instead
