Topic: Drag & Drop reverb impulses

First, I'd like to THANK Modartt for the hard dedicated work resulting in this magnificent version of Pianoteq.
It will take me some time (between sleep and diaper changing!) to study it deeply and appreciate, but already I see a huge difference.

The convolution reverb is a very significant improvement, and a nice choice of feature. Of course there are excellent external reverbs, but it's very handy to have a solid built in one.

One small suggestion: how about drag&dropping reverb impulses, just like any other file type?

I am sure I will enjoy this version very much (now equipped with a new set of AKG K240S - thanks for the tip - even more so). Yesterday I played a little and really "got lost" in it.

All the best

Re: Drag & Drop reverb impulses

A very good idea!

Ideally, Pianoteq should have its own IR folder (with a preference to set that folder in Options), the place where all IRs go, allowing subfolders as well.

This would also make exchanging FXPs easier. The beta testing team was discussing these things, however Modartt didn't seem to get down to implementing this quite relevant feature. Let's wait for an update...

Hard work and guts!

Re: Drag & Drop reverb impulses

By the way:

Version 4.0.2: "... Allow drag&drop of impulse response WAV files for the reverb. ..."

Thanks again Modartt developers for being THAT attentive!

I know there is a lot of vigorous debate around V4, but you gotta hand it to Modartt:

1) They are doing ground breaking stuff - that is always hard:
- technically, it takes time, many iterations
- it upsets lots of people.
- many other people develop unrealistic expectations too soon.
This takes courage. It is much less courageous to do what the rest of the flock are doing.

2) They are exceptionally capable. Pianoteq is a pretty amazing piece of software. If it were only emulating Fender Rhodes, or Vibraphone (etc...), I'd think most people would agree it's a very impressive Rhodes/Vibraphone/etc.. emulator, packed with tons of features, flexibility, a rich soundscape in a tight small package.

3) They take their customers SERIOUSLY.

I admit I am myself a Pianoteq fan. I really enjoy playing it (and fiddling around with all it's buttons). But I'm not blind. It's definitely not perfect, and it doesn't yet replace my 1965 yamaha U1. Healthy criticism is important.

But I have the deepest respect for what Modartt is doing, what they have accomplished so far, their excellent customer support culture, I believe in the technology, its potential, and their ability to maximize it over time. Those are the reasons I am more than happy to support them along their courageous journey, as I am sure many others in this forum are.

Re: Drag & Drop reverb impulses

Sounds like a interesting idea...

For who do not play with headphones, reverberation of the actual room place will be combined with the convolution reverb.

I was thinking....  but it's not a request, just a thinking:

Is that possible, in theory, to get the reverb effect of your room, knowing the power of your speakers and position too, and capturing the sound reflection of the room, and create a software to compensate this when using a convolution revert, or at least attenuate.

Of course the reverberation of you room probably need to be softer than the reverberation of the target convolution reverb.

Just a idea...

Re: Drag & Drop reverb impulses

beto,

Yes. See for example IK Multimedia's ARC System

Re: Drag & Drop reverb impulses

Actually on my iMac, software for that came with it in the standard package:
Impulse Response Utility
It lets you do a sound 'sweep' in the space you're in, while recording that using the built-in mic or any connected mic and then you can use the resulting IR in for instance Pianoteq or Logics' Space Designer...
