Topic: PT4 - No Ipad version
I'm a bit disapointed. I was secretly hoping there would be an iPad version with this major release
That would clearly have made PT4 the best Vst out there ...
Hope it will be released one day ...

I think the iPad should first get a bit more power inside ?
It will probably be at least 2-3 years before the iPad has the power sufficient to run Pianoteq 6 (or 7?). Remember, it was not long ago we were waiting for laptops to catch up to desktop computers.
Why an iPad? It's not as if you're interacting with the device when you're playing Pianoteq, and Pianoteq can run on a netbook anyway.
Surely for the ultimate in portability and convenience, a mobile phone version is the way to go?
If I pound away about 15-20 keys over and over to try work Pianoteq to max it doesn't go above 15% processor usage for me. It seems Pianoteq is using 2 processors on my Mac (which is a 2.67 GHz Quad).
That's not too much CPU power really. The iPad can easily handle that (at least the latest 2 generations I'm sure).
I have all kinds of synths and keyboards on the iPad and for sure Pianoteq would end up being my 'go to' app if they did make it. I use the apps for on-the-go scratchpads and some even have the ability to record a performance so you can go back and later work on it more in your DAW.
Would be perfect if you could do things like exporting the Midi and somehow interfacing with the desktop version. Maybe use the iPad as a Midi controller (over WiFi) to Pianoteq desktop.
Oh wait. This might need a new thread haha!
Would be awesome if Pianoteq was on the iPad though!
Why an iPad? Because it's going to be the "go to" computing device to take to a gig I think. I use my iPhone at some gigs but the larger screen on the iPad makes it usable for a variety of tasks. Laptops are a bit too bulky/clumsy. An iPad is like a piece of sheet music... just the right size for the eyes...
Running Mainstage (with PianoTEQ and everything else) on an iPad at the gig would be perfect for me.
I bet Ipad service it's already getting emails from member of this forum, requesting multiple velocity sensibilty for the touch screen...
"just the right size for the eyes"... you have a 24" iPad ? ;-)
I think there is at least 2 reasons to have PT on an Ipad :
- First, the midi layer on the ipad is really good ... see what you can do with GarageBand and SampleTank ... You can really make great music everywhere ... However, the iPad lacks a good piano right now
- Great sample based virtual piano can't really make their way to the iPad due to the sheer size of the samples, modeled piano seems just to be the right thing to do on ipad, the perfect way to go ...
Honestly, iPad and PT are made to meet each other !!
And, I really think the processing power on the iPad 2 and 3 should be enough to run PT. Moreover, PT runs already on Windows, Mac, and Linux, it should not be to much work to make it run on iOS too...
I would really be happy to hear Pianoteq guys on this ... What's your opinion? Have you already tried to run PT on iPad, have you plans to do it ?
