Re: Pianoteq 4 upgrade pricing
You purchase the €29 upgrade, since you already have Pro.
Many thanks, o evilest of all Dragons! That's a steal really.

It really is a steal.
Somewhere the words of a song; " I never liked the taste of crow, but I've eaten it" (approximate).
Anyway, I want to back-pedal a bit - OK, make that a LOT !! :-D
Congrats, nice job.
An especially nice job of keeping it under wraps so well, I had REALLY expected some leaks.
I am impressed with the D4. No qualifiers are needed on that statement.
Now the quandary; I have established in my mind that I want to AVOID eternal twiddling, i.e. I want to remain "a pre-set sort of user" more a player than a sound experimenter, which has lead me to the thought that pianotek play is probably adequate, nay MORE than adequate for ME.
V4 of play is still a month or so away - I'll try to not get impatient about an EXACT date.
So, how to do this ?
Should I pick up a close-out V3 at discount and get the "free" upgrade next month ?
Gee, the full version (discounted) looks attractive by that plan... maybe I should do that and get the free upgrade NOW ?
OTOH, the temptation toward eternal twiddling might arise.... ;-(
Hmmmm, buying PLAY at a discount now would mean an upgrade to FULL or PRO at a later date would cost the full E150 or E300 - discount houses don't offer discounted upgrades.
Sorry, this is just MY shopping quandary, I shouldn't be bothering others with it :-D
Again, Congrats, nice job - MUCH closer to what I have come to believe is the sound of physical pianos - BTW, I had a very short session on a real and physical "B" yesterday, only hours before trying PTQ 4, so my impressions were still quite fresh.
With sales tax a "B" is just about $100K here...
Golly Gee, an emulated "D" for ~$99 (plus several others)
What's to not LUV ?

That cheap? Can't be a proper piano. Maybe as a nice piece of furniture…
@tractor_music: Start with Standard. My advice.
Why? Because Standard can load presets that were created with Pro version (with all the per-key changes), and PLAY version cannot do that. You will want that if you're a preset bunny.
BTW everyone, as you may have noticed in Pianoteq's manual (if you've installed the trial), Pianoteq PLAY will change its name to Pianoteq STAGE. Just a little bit of info
I went pro this year. I find the spectrum profile keymap feature to be quite handy (though complex), likewise tweaking hammer hardness in certain areas where the models do have weaknesses.

Strange though it may seem, I didn't question it; It is not as if I was SERIOUS about buying it, though I did glance at the tag.
It may be (well) used, it may not be a prime sample - to me it was just an opportunity to play with one and that opportunity doesn't arise very often.
Hmmm, I suspect that MANY $100K + "pianos" are indeed "nice furniture" and the name on the case probably COUNTS for some people who "entertain" at home. Even more impressive to have around if nobody in the family actually PLAYS :-D

OK, I accept the tag "preset bunny" - I used to be a "Rack Rat", so this is a much appreciated promotion :-D
Thanks for the tip.
Standard IS a good deal - - as long as preset bunnies don't turn into preset collectors/hoarders.
Probably next week, I have outside work to do, that MUST be done.
I'll try to time delivery for the next rainy day.
I seem not able to find the 29 € offer, the shop always just offers me a 150 € upgrade which is a little bit off budget right now. I would take the 29 € right away. What am I doing wrong.
I think I have the 3.6.8 standard version.
R.
On the RH side of the place your order page is a link for upgrades, under "select a product category".
Enjoy!

Found it, it even warned me that I have another 150 EUR update selected. Playing 4.0.0 now ;-)
Added bells.ptq and KViR.ptq
Seems I cannot find carillons in bells.ptq though.

Great that it's finally here, and great pricing for upgrade.
I have PLAY, and am considering upgrade to STD.
I'm in the US - are there any US distributers offering the upgrades so I can avoid the hefty 20% EU VAT?
Thanks.
Can I try before I upgrade?

Of course.

I think the EU VAT isn't (should not be) applied for purchases to US - BICBW

I don't know if they have it yet, or if they will, but B&H is my best guess for US upgrades.
My rationale is that they were selling PTQ-3 as a download, so I assume they have some sort of a "distributor" contract, the terms of which MAY allow them to distribute upgrades - GUESSING here, just guessing.
They aren't listing PTQ4 (yet) so maybe it will be a little while before their web site is updated - maybe even longer before they get V4 update capability.
Anyway, probably worth a phone call.

I live in the US and purchased the upgrade online through the Pianoteq website and paid with PayPal and there was no VAT added.

Hmm. Selecting a EU address yields
Total: 150.00 € (EUR Incl. VAT) => implies should be 125 € without VAT
125 EUR would be ~$160 USD
However when I enter a US address, the total price shown is $190 USD (or 145 EUR).
So, basically the same as the EU price incl. VAT, which is confusing. Maybe export taxes or something?
Played with the demo today, like the sound. Undecided whether to wait for play (or "stage") or go with the standard upgrade...

Add to that the "Custom" of US shoppers to EXPECT discounts of 20% or so from list prices - and to be able to get it via the mail/web order distributors - then the upgrades via Europe look a a lot less attractive.
The DEAL is E29 ($38 or so) for the upgrade of a year old or earlier V3 or V2.
I am holding off until B&H, Sweetwater, Sam Ash, et al have V4 in stock (and discounted).
Hopefully a lot of the little "day one bugs" and oversights will be fixed by then - MAYBE :-D

I found a new (old stock, in box, unopened) Version 3 for a very good price - - Yipee
I can upgrade for free and get updates for 1 year after initial registration - - still GOOD !
I did the same trial upGRADE (to Pro) pricing exercise with a USA address and got the same result,
i.e. US$190, which obviously includes EU VAT.
I think I will stick with Standard unless/until the VAT thing can be sorted out.
OTOH, (as a pre-set bunny) I may just stick to Standard anyway.
on the 3rd hand.... Maybe I upgrade to Pro when V5 comes out, about 21 months from now.
Although that would sacrifice my pre-set bunny status.
January 2014 V5 - - You read it here first :-D
