Topic: Zero polyphony

I use pianoteq as a tuning tool for when setting temperament.

What would be handy for me is if pianoteq had the option of sustaining just one note at a time, so that when a new note is pressed, it switches with no overlap.

This would save me from having to reset the sustain pedal on each note, making the task a little bit quicker and easier.

I'm sure if ever a stylophone mod was considered, the feature would also have a musical application (!)

Re: Zero polyphony

You can get a very long sustain by pushing the Impedance slider to its max value (3.0). With the Pro version, you can also further increase it so as to get an infinite sound, organ-like without the need for the sustain pedal. Here is an example I did with K1 (Close Mic) :

EDIT: You may also have to damp all strings (Action->Last Damper=128) otherwise the high notes won't stop sounding when releasing the key...

Re: Zero polyphony

I can't remember but can the polyphony be set to one note ?
That way you could kill the old note when pressing a new one

Re: Zero polyphony

Thanks for the tip, Gilles, but sustain isn't the problem. It's the overlapping of notes that's a bug-bear.

When I mean zero polyphony, I actually mean a polyphony of one. But stating that seemed like a contradiction in terms.

As far as I know, the minimum polyphony in v3.6.5 is currently 2. It would be nice if the option for 1 was there.

Re: Zero polyphony

You could approach this as a MIDI project. There are programs that will alter your MIDI on the way to the program (like Midipipe for the Mac). You'd want to set it up so that each "note on" message contains the "note off" message for the previous note (or for all notes if there's such a message).

Re: Zero polyphony

As of the 3.6.6 update, zero polyphony is available!
Thanks very much for listening, Modartt! This feature will make my job a whole lot easier

Ehh... but that's no sound !

Re: Zero polyphony

Interesting. Maximum Polyphony of 1 (there's no zero on my copy) make runs monophonic but allows chords if you hit all the notes at once.

Certainly makes for a clean bass with the possibility of chords in the right hand; I can't figure out the 'rules' here.
