Topic: Bass sounds

I personally would love to have some bass-sounds in Pianoteq especially double bass sounds ;-) At least these are also string instruments.
It has been mentioned in an earlier post and as someone stated there's a lack of control: there are different ways of slapping and plunging a bass or guitar's snare. But...I really like the controls which are already available in Pianoteq like bending, tremolo, velocity etc.
I would like to share with you my first attempt to create an electrical bass (don't know how to make a double bass) sound based on the Wurly. I've uploaded a first version in the files section and I'll enhance this in the future. Any suggestions to make it sound better are welcome!

Re: Bass sounds

This is an interesting question. I am surprised no one has answered or offered any insight... I'm thinking of Pianoteq teckies in particular..

The thing is, is Pianoteq truly a physically modelled piano?

Or.. do they start with a (sampled?) sound and add "modelling" effects to it..?

If it is the former, then clearly there is the possibility of creating other string instruments. A Piano hits a string with a hammer and a physical model computes an algorithmic equivalent. A double-bass is plucked or bowed, so surely a new algorithm is just a few equations away...??

If the latter, then pianoteq is broadly equivalent to big manufacturers latest digital pianos, which use samples to start with and add "modelling" effects which are really glorified digital filters. I'm thinking of Yamaha's CP1 for example or Roland's Supernatural thingamy whatsit.. In which case, no, you can't create a double bass properly.

So come on Pianoteq experts, which is it? What is the true starting point for the physically modelled piano you are selling, and can hvaartsen's wish be granted? Theoretically at least?

Re: Bass sounds

In version 2 of Pianoteq, there was an acoustic bass - and I used it - and it wasn't bad at all.

Perhaps Modartt will tell us again why it disappeared?

Re: Bass sounds

It was a FXP and not a onboard instrument.

Today it is way below Modartt's quality standart.
