I'd like to hear opinions from the people who tried Notion!
Ha! I was looking at Notion 3 for exactly the same reason -- I think Sibelius is basically becoming yet another Avid chestnut: expensive for starters and not updated significantly without gouging your wallet. (I refused to pay for the upgrade to version 6!) They don't release enough "point" updates; you're lucky if you get a "x.1" that fixes some problems and then leaves the rest for the paid upgrade!
I tried the Notion 3 demo about 3-4 months ago, and I was really not impressed at the time. The product still feels very "half-baked." I somewhat like the look and the "tools" layout, but it just doesn't respond fast enough for me with either manual OR MIDI note-input.
(Note: this is Sibelius' fatal flaw for me.)
Hey, what the heck happened to their demo? I just checked and it says, "Available Soon" -- ???!??!?? Maybe (hopefully) they're doing some refining...
DEFINITELY don't consider it until you can try the demo. I tried it for about a month, I think (it had a 30-day period, if I remember correctly), and I just kept becoming frustrated with the sloppy note-inputting (when you have to "fix" half or more of what you input...).
