Topic: Netbook success

I recently picked up an Asus 1005HA netbook, and I'm happy to report that it runs Pianoteq well, given the limitations of the current Atom processors. This netbook has the N270 processor which runs at 1.6Ghz.
I get a solid performance index of 9, and sometimes 10, with VERY occasional glitches at 96Khz and 256 samples, with an internal sample rate of 24Khz and a latency of 2.7 ms. It's set to 48 voices and I expect more wouldn't be a problem, but I don't need them. The processor hit hasn't gotten past 57%.

The only performance issue I've seen is that moving a volume/cc7 slider while playing notes produces crackling and distortion. Bumping things up to 512 samples and 5.3 ms latency cures that. Some may find that much latency objectionable, I'm undecided.

If anyone can refer me to some Windows 7 performance tweaks I'd be grateful. Black Viper has a site for windows services tweaks that I'm checking out too.

Now that I've got one of these netbooks I can see the appeal- it's a lot of fun, and amazingly it runs Pianoteq! In fact, I've got it running Cantabile, Pianoteq and NI B4 at once, and so far so good

Could somebody please explain exactly what this value represents?

Re: Netbook success

Paul,

I'm not that knowledgeable, and perhaps someone else can chime in, but my understanding is that the performance index measures how well a computer system is able to handle the demands of Pianoteq, which is processor intensive.

The higher the performance index, the better. For instance, my Core 2 Duo machine gets a performance index of 38-40. I can run it at a higher bitrate and at lower latency than with a netbook, where compromises need to be made.

That Pianoteq can run AT ALL on a netbook, and be stable, I find amazing.
