Topic: Hamondlike sound in K1...

I really like this new piano K1! I think its amazing!

But I tried it for a song that I recorded in Logic some time ago (actually its a easter song) and I discovered a hamondlike tone from one of the "bassnotes". I use to occtavate the bastones and I think its the second lowest this is coming from. Is it only me that is hearing this?

The mid file is here:

And the mp3 is here:

I can here this booth in Logic ande in the stand alone version...

I hope you understand my english...

Sounds just fine here

Hard work and guts!

Re: Hamondlike sound in K1...

I think I hear the one note that he means. It's not the bass in general, but just the one note.

What note is it, berghs.kedjan?

Re: Hamondlike sound in K1...

I don't think it is just 'the one note'. As far as I can tell, it could be some blend and/or build-up of various resonances and reflections, a phenomenon which does indeed sound very organ-like in this particular example. Am I wrong or is it slightly more present in the right than in the left speaker? That's how I hear it here anyway.
To me it sounds as if some electric organ - mixed in the background (to the right) and with plenty of reverb added - is doubling rather a lot of what the piano is playing.

I've downloaded the midi-file, Andreas, and I'll have a look at it this evening. Maybe there is a way to diminish this effect or even eliminate it altogether.

Re: Hamondlike sound in K1...

I think it is bell-like inharmonic sounds excited by these very low octaves and fifths. It seems to be reduced when increasing String length a lot.

EDIT: In fact the bell tone is still there but it changes character, moving from a hammond-like sound to more of a pipe-organ pedal sound. Intriguing, I didn't notice this before on this version of K1.

Re: Hamondlike sound in K1...

No it's not just the "one-note". And Gilles, Yes it changes to a more pipe-organ sound with long strings... I have listened in earphones (beyerdynamic DT 250) and I think its more in the left ear but even present in the right.. But I'm not sure..

I can't hear it in C3...

Re: Hamondlike sound in K1...

Listening again to your example, and supposing it was recorded with the Solo Recording preset, I think maybe there is also the problem of the reverb room size which resonates mainly on F at the octave higher and in the right channel.

Also the bass register of the K1 is very different from the C3, the K1 having a lot more of harmonics 2 and 3 (pianoteq notation) in my opinion, which may give this organ-like resonance.

So I uploaded an fxp changing the reverb room size and the first 3 harmonics of important notes in the two bottom octaves using the PRO version. See if you like it better. Maybe you'll think it's worse...if the problem I hear is not the one that you identifed

Thank you Gilles!

Yes it was the K1 solo recording preset I used. But even with your new preset I hear it quite well. (you know, when you ones start to hear an extra tone that shouldn't be there, you can't stop hearing it until it's gone...). Now I tried listening with my Yamaha HS 50M and I hear it there too...

But I really like this piano...
