Topic: Positive Feedback about Pianoteq at Pianoworld.com

Hello All,

I thought I would share with you some positive feedback garnered at the pianoworld.com website, regarding the sound of Pianoteq.

A little more than a week ago, I submitted my live performance of Maurice Ravel's "Alborada" from his suite "Miroirs", using the C3 piano and its stock Solo Recording microphone setup.  The purpose of this effort was NOT to deceive, but to ask for opinions and comments about the performance and sound of the piano.  I deliberately withheld the origin of the piano's sound, so as not to bias the forum members' opinions, one way or another.

Here is the URL to that thread at Pianoworld:

http://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubbthre...ost1379880

Some readers were able to tell the sound was via Pianoteq; this was most likely because the file name included the name Pianoteq.  Duh!!!  The most satisfying feeling I derived from this thread was the manner in which the sometimes "diehard" or "purist" members were very complimentary about the sound.  Specifically, there were very positive comments regarding how amazed they were that a digital piano was capable of eliciting such an "orchestral" pallete of sounds.

I quite agree that the C3 with PTQ3.5 is an amazingly "musical" sounding instrument, and allows me to capture nuances that even EQWL's 90GB Bosendorfer is not able to capture.  In fact, the C3 allows my technique to coax out nuances in my performances that only a piano the caliber of a good Steinway B (7') or better -- or its competitors of like- or better quality -- can achieve.

Cheers,

Joe

Re: Positive Feedback about Pianoteq at Pianoworld.com

Hi

I'm a bit ill, and was unable to a de good test with version 3.5 or keep the eye on every post in the forum.
Also I need to send my speaker to technical assistence, as some strong noise distortions from PC seems to had made some damage in this last month.

Just curiosity: Does everyone found significative changes in the main sound with version 3.5.3 compared to 3.52version ?

Incredible playing Joe!

Re: Positive Feedback about Pianoteq at Pianoworld.com

Somebody has to go there and tell them that Pianoteq is not "samples"!

Hard work and guts!

Re: Positive Feedback about Pianoteq at Pianoworld.com

Just a correction of my anterior post.

I think there is no change in the main sound from version 3.53 compared to version 3.52.
Anyway, the Changes History, in pianoteq site, do not mention changes in the sound.
There is a optimization for netbooks.

The performance sounds nice.     :-)

jcfelice88keys:  Very nice!  I can only hope to play that well someday.

If you don't mind me asking, what controller are you using?

He said he uses Roland A80 some time ago.

Hard work and guts!

Re: Positive Feedback about Pianoteq at Pianoworld.com

Thanks so much, Joe, I appreciated both, for the musicality.

You feel very confident at the keyboard is it one of the aspect of playing with Pianoteq ? there is a high predictability for tone, it may help a lot, good for the pianist !) is it a Roland A80 "master keyboard" ? (I have one of those old keyboards and find the touch excellent)

I find some tones or resonances that say it is digital (in the basses and low medium, as when notes ar repeated)  , even if generally speaking it is very realistic.

Something could make an amazing experience if you don't mind.

Could you try to post the same recordings with the "CHAS" tuning setup file (scala file, + 88 key preset)  ? I have the theory that the realness of the piano tone is raised with that tuning , more resonance, hence more "piano like".

I am very happy that Pianoteq had some good comments . That software and Moddart really deserves it.

Yes someone may state those are not samples. I guess I understand the difference in behavior between using Pianoteq and sample based systems, it really seem to behave like a real musical instrument That may be stated, to raise the pianists interest.

I am a piano tuner/technician, and worked for Steinway concert service for some years, have a good idea on how good pianos are sounding .  I stated yet what I like on Pianoteq, (and what misses)

I can provide you an access to a box.net folder if you wish to send wav file or a large MP3 (but the free folders are enough for any MP3 in anycase)

Thank you in advance if you can do that little experiment. (may be not due to the Pianoteq version ?)

May be something will come from there...

Re: Positive Feedback about Pianoteq at Pianoworld.com

It is not possible to upload a scl (scala) file - describing a tuning or a temperament.

I will send it to you by mail, or better, you can get it there :

http://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B6GjQDk...&hl=en

CHAS is Equal temperament, simply the enlarging of the tuning is driven by an equivalence in size between the double octave and the twelve. that have as an effect to enlight the harmony and resonance.

To me more coherence in harmony and more resonance, that will add "air" to the piano tone , hence my idea that it will tone more realistic.

Sorry if it looks out of topic , and thank you again (I liked also the Gerswin)

Re: Positive Feedback about Pianoteq at Pianoworld.com

If you pack a file to ZIP or RAR, it can be uploaded to box.net.

There IS only one type of Roland A80 There's no "Roland A80 Music Workstation"

of course, you can upload any kind of file, but if the size is above 1Go (I guess) you have to be on an upgraded account (I have hence my proposal). I need to have an email address to add it as a trustee on my folder so he can upload. email me privately if you wish.

Yes I know there are no "workstations" I have that A80 since the 80's and have find that the keys where very efficient and responsive, but I dont know much about actual digital keyboards, I have tried some that had improved touch but find they tend to put you in the same velocity easily, for the one that offer good resistance, others are precise but a little light to me)

I dont play that A80 actually and have left it to a customer I am repairing the piano... wish I could have it back soon ! jsut a matter of finishing the repair !

Re: Positive Feedback about Pianoteq at Pianoworld.com

Actually you have 1 GB storage space for any amount of files on free box.net account, but no file can be larger than 25 MB!
