Topic: Pianoteq setup

Hi, i am new to pianoteq and i have yamaha keyboard and would like to try pianoteq but don't know how to set this up with my laptop. I watched this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gf1t1qs0yTs but my yamaha doesn' have midi out but only usb to host port. I also don't have the m-audio usb audio interface so i wonder how will i be able to connect the laptop to the external speaker. Can I use the line out on my laptop to connect it to loudspeaker?

Re: Pianoteq setup

Hi Ori0n

I'm also running a trial version of pianoteq on a Yamaha keyboard. My current setup is fairly basic and simple:

1) Remember to download and install the midi interface for your Yamaha digital piano matching your computer OS. You can download the interface file from the Yamaha website.

2) Connection: [USB to Host port] on digital piano to [USB] port on computer. In other words, the square end of a USB cable to the digital piano and the flat end of the USB cable to the computer.

3) Plug a pair of headphones to the headphone jack on your computer. Similarly, speakers can be used this way as well.

As I mentioned earlier I'm also trialing pianoteq. You will undoubtedly find lots of useful advice and tips on this excellent forum. And the documentation is also very well written.

Re: Pianoteq setup

What if i buy the m-audio usb interface, should i still connect my yamaha usb to host port to my laptop usb port cause based on the youtube video he connected the keyboard's midi out to the m-audio midi in, will it still work even if i don't have midi out to connect to the m-audio midi in? How aobut the sound quality, is it better to use the m-audio than the onboard soundcard?
