Louis Couperin (born c. 1626 – died 29 August 1661) was a distinguished French composer, organist, and harpsichordist of the early Baroque period. He was the uncle of the more famous François Couperin. He was renowned as a composer of delicate works for the harpsichord and a master of an irregular, free-form playing style. He was born in Chaumes-en-Brie. He came to Paris around 1650–1651, where he served as organist at the Church of St. Gervais. He died young at the age of 35.

Louis Couperin was truly a foundational force of the French Baroque era. His masterly use of free-form, unmeasured preludes and intricate harpsichord textures set the stage for generations of musicians—including his famous nephew, François.
