For the collection Caecilia – 253 Preludes for Organ or Harmonium, the editor August Reinhard (1831–1912) drew primarily on the works of the preceding generation. In this regard, August Friedrich Hesse and Johann Christian Heinrich Rinck feature prominently. Most of these very easy to moderately difficult preludes are highly versatile for church services, as they are not based on a specific chorale melody. The organization by musical keys further demonstrates the collection’s outstanding practicality.
