In the latest version of Pianoteq 9.1.2, the length of the Steinway D is listed as 2.70 m. However, isn’t the actual length of a Steinway D closer to 2.74 m?
This issue doesn’t seem to appear with the Steinway B or other pianos in the “String Length” menu.
Also, shouldn’t this parameter be called “Piano Length” instead? The strings themselves don’t have the exact same length as the piano, so the current naming feels a bit misleading.

I was also confused with that . Modartt instrument page related to the Steinway D mentions clearly that the piano size is 274 cm . The longuest strings are actually 229 cm , so 270 is strange and not homogenous with other pianos .
But the thing that left me the most perplex is that this parameter is meant to control inharmonicity which is essentially related to string length not piano size .
Moreover this parameter only makes sense when adjusted note by note . So the adjustment with a single value is probably just a proxy value not an absolute value derived from a physical characteristic. In all cases I have noticed that you get a better sound if you shorten the value , but we are entering a subjective space with personal preferences.
If would be great if Modartt clarifies this as the documentation relates specifically to string length impact and it is probably one of the fundamental parameters which is pivotal for the string vibrations.
