Charles-François Gounod (1818–1893) was a leading French composer of the 19th century, best known for his operas and his work in the field of church music. He is regarded as one of the principal figures of French Romantic opera. He composed operas, numerous sacred works, symphonies and many songs. Gounod’s music is characterised by great melodic elegance, emotional sensitivity and sophisticated instrumentation.

The O salutaris is a sacred, meditative setting of the Eucharistic hymn text by Thomas Aquinas. The style is romantic, lyrical and tranquil. The O salutaris has a simple yet heartfelt and expressive melody, which begins in a very devout manner.

We released this recording several years ago. We have now created a new mix of the old recording using Organteq 2.
