Topic: Piano settings for a jazz band

Hi all,

I am total noob when it comes to Pianoteq preset configurations and need an advice.
I need hints on how to configure a piano preset to cut thorugh a mix in a jazz band (with drums and double bass). I'm looking for a sound similar to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiw3O3sCTb8

I have tried with some of the Pianoteq presets which sound amazing when I play alone, but somehow the piano gets lost when I play with other instruments (e.g. drumms and bass).

Thank you in advance,

Adrian

For some reason I am unable to access the YouTube video you linked to, so I'm not sure what you're going for.  I play in several big bands and have used Pianoteq on some gigs (though not yet regularly).  For me one key to cutting through is having a lot of upper harmonics. So maybe experiment with the spectrum or the equalizer - or maybe different piano models (some are brighter than others).

It also may depend on what you are using for amplification (everything sounds great through headphones, but not everything sounds great through loudspeakers).

Try pop or mix presets - try the YC5, and Blüthner

Plus EQ - there are several EQ presets to try
