Topic: blind and trying to use pianoteq 9 on ios

Hellllo. I am totally blind and I am using Voiceover. I do have also access to JAWS on my Windows computer. I tried Komplete kontrol but really didn't like their instruments, and it's a pile on Windows.  So I just bought a 61-key keyboard becuase I wanted a couch player instrument. Anyway, I love pianoteq sounds. The problem, I find the interface confusing. It is labelled reasonably well with Voiceover, but I absolutely get lost just trying to pick a new instrument. And now I think i've tried to set something up and it made things go screwy. Like I think I somehow turned off instruments altogether. LIke sometimes I'll try to show all instruments and it will just show the last presets. I feel like I'm just doing it wrong. Do you think it works better on iPad. Also can Ios with mixer play at the hgiher sample rate? I have a Novation 61-key Mk4 does anyone use that? Is it hard to assign knobs? I'd also love if someone in Portland, Oregon Vancouver, Washington area maybe could sit down with me and just go through parameters and understand. Or if not in person, maybe just talk me through it. I only have standard so far. Is pro worth upgradng? I've been tempted to get the studio because they're so good. But I want to be confident in using this.

Hi,

I can't answer all your questions as I don't have experience with Voiceover in Pianoteq, so I don't know if it's confusing because of that or because of the steep learning curve of the parameters themselves. They kind of force you to become a piano technician (which is a learning experience I enjoy).

All parameters in pianoteq can be automated with midi. Right-clicking on a parameter opens a context menu with a midi button which, when pressed, waits for you to use a midi control and it will get paired with that. Further options are available in the Midi section of the Options menu (I'm not sure how easy to navigate this is with voiceover, so I apologise if that doesn't work for you - I'm sure someone from Moddart with knowledge of its accessibility features could clear up any specifics).

I have used a Novation keyboard in the past, though not with pianoteq, and yes, the knobs should emit midi value changes so the mapping I just described should solve this for you.

The instrument selector has a search function wherein you can start entering the name of a preset and your selection gets filtered to that. Is it possible that your voice control enters some text unintentionally, filtering out some or most presets? Also, the first options in the menu are the most recently used presets, then there comes a section heading and only then does the main list begin. I wonder if your navigator gets stuck before it can access the main presets. Sorry, again I'm just speculating.

I recently upgraded to the pro version and very much enjoy it! The higher bitrate slightly sharpens the attack transient and smoothens the "white noise" in the very high frequency ranges. It doesn't necessarily sound more detailed or anything, it's just a little bit easier on the ears and clearer in a subconscious sort of way. I also enjoy that all the parameters can be added per note, though it takes some expertise. But if you're not sure, there's no harm learning the ropes in the Standard version first and upgrade when you've built up more confidence.

With regard to learning all the parameters, I read through the entire pianoteq manual which gives you a solid foundation, and enough of a starting point to figure out the rest by trial and error. Here is the link in case you need it: https://www.modartt.com/user_manual?pro...mp;lang=en

Hope some of this is helpful and that you'll get better informed responses soon!

YOu are so kind. Yes. I have heard it's even accessible on Windows with JAWS. I don't want ot use the computer all the time, but if i set up the functions on the keyboard then, would they stay? Or do you know? Yes, I just read the manual. But I know things are laid out different in ios. I just found Windows to be a nightmare because everytime it updates it messes sound up.

Oh, yes. And it does seem to get stuck in some panels. I wonder what things would be good to set to the knobs, there are like nine of them and eight faders. I could get hubby to do it but will I have to do it with every instrument. Hubby is not musical or midi knowledgeable so instructions must be very precise. Lol. Wish I had somewhere here to just get it done.
