Baroque Schnitger organ l 1680  St Johannis Hamburg

Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707): Puer natus in Bethlehem, BuxWv 217.  (A child is born inBetlehem)

As we know, Buxtehude was a teacher for Bach for 16 weeks, a Master at that time before Bach.  And Buxtehude played famous Schnitger organs!!
Modern recordings of Buxtehude's music are often performed on these same historically significant Schnitger organs, giving insight into his sound world.

So now we have the FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY to listen to a Schnitger organ 1680, (physically modelled by Modartt) and Buxtehude’s music, giving insight into Buxtehude's and Schnitger's sound world. Thanks to Roman and Organteq 2
Hope you enjoy

Description:

The organ of St. Peter and Paul in Cappel was built in 1680 by Arp Schnitger and has been in Cappel, Lower Saxony since 1816. It is considered to be the most complete and sonically best-preserved organ from the late 17th century in northern Germany. The instrument has two manuals with pedal and 30 stops, of which only two are not entirely old. Helmut Walcha's recordings of Bach's organ works (1950–1952) made this instrument world-famous

Dieterich Buxtehude certainly played Arp Schnitger organs, as he collaborated with Schnitger on building instruments, wrote about them, and played significant Schnitger organs in Hamburg (Google)

Hi Stig,

I don't have a lot of context to comment on other than this has a really nice combination of rich fullness and a bit of grit in the tones (not sure if that is the best way to describe it).  Great listen!. Thanks for sharing!
