Topic: I'll Remember Herbie (Pianoteq)

once again returning to Misha Mengelberg, here's a beautiful ballad he wrote (almost certainly, but no confirmation) for Herbie Nichols: "I'll Remember Herbie."  there's another famous ballad called "I Remember Clifford" that Benny Golson wrote to honor Clifford Brown, so Misha must have been channeling that feeling.  it's a lovely chart but i don't ever hear anyone playing it.

Dreamy and mysterious. I like the "chinese" voicings. Some phrases remind me (a bit) of those of "Solo" (the first one) by Baptiste Trotignon, a recording you might appreciate (if you don't know it).

Interesting piece. I like it. Felt a bit like wandering here and there in a forest and looking forward to something....I think 3.58 - 4.09 is the climax. Very nice section! Then you start to approach the end…..
The nice stop at 4,10 and ending is soon coming….
532 - 5,40 nice going down and then - 540 to end going up.
This ”going down going up again” is a beautiful way of ending a piece. Thank you budo! Always nice listening to your playing and several good different chords you have in this piece. And I agree with Borealis about those "Chinese voicing".

I have played "Angel Springs" by Joe Hishaisi, the piece is ending with same kind of chords that you use (kind of). If time, listen to Youtube, and go to the end of piece...

Best wishes,

Stig

Piece is not public Domain so I don't upload it although there are so many people playing it, do they all ask for permission or do people just play whatever pieces...??
Sometimes Yt tell me a piece is protected but the owner allow me to use it. Have several pieces of that kind.

P.S.  Do you have your Contest piece ready? I think it is coming soon....My piece is waiting

thank you so much Borealis, and also for pointing out this piano player.  i had never heard of him.  i listened to some of Solo and Solo II, beautiful!  i'm going to be checking out more of his stuff.

thank you so much Stig.  i really appreciate it.  i will check out the recording you mention, i haven't heard of that tune before.  i'm sure that if you record a version of it and post it no one will care.  YT's detection is regrettably getting better but pretty much everything i'm doing slips by.

i haven't done anything yet for the contest but i certainly want to always fun to participate.  there are so many excellent entries.
