Topic: Sibelius Users: Pianoteq 9 No Longer Supports VST2 (.dll) Files

Unfortunately, Sibelius users won’t be able to use Pianoteq 9 with Sibelius. Sibelius requires a VST2 .dll file, but Pianoteq 9 no longer provides VST2—only a VST3 version, in line with industry standards. Pianoteq 8 was the last release to include a VST2 .dll file. Sibelius, however, still doesn’t support the newer VST3 format, even though VST2 has been officially discontinued across the music software industry. It’s disappointing

VST3 has been out for absolute ages, I’d say the fault lies squarely with Sibelius. Are they still in business, and what did they say when you asked them, if so?

Perhaps a wrapper that still works as a VST2 and can load 3? Does blue cat or metaplugin offer this?

You can use Dorico 6.1 SE by Steinberg, FREE : https://www.steinberg.net/dorico/se/
Then you can use PianoTeq 9 with Dorico.

Indeed the fault lies squarely with Sibelius here. Maybe it will go the way of Finale?

Dorico is an excellent choice, created by the original Sibelius developers that were all fired after Avid bought the company.

Re: Sibelius Users: Pianoteq 9 No Longer Supports VST2 (.dll) Files

I’m looking for a workaround or patch that would let Sibelius, which only supports VST2 plug-ins, load Pianoteq 9, which now provides only a VST3 version.

As far as I understand, Sibelius requires a .dll (VST2) file, but Pianoteq 9 no longer includes one — Pianoteq 8 was the last version to offer a VST2 build.

Has anyone found a VST2–VST3 bridge or another solution that would allow Pianoteq 9 to work inside Sibelius? Any insight, patch, or workaround would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Harry

You have no MIDI out inside Sibelius?
