Topic: The Music of the Night

It's been far too long since last I posted, but that hasn't stopped me from recording! Thought I'd share my most recent release which just dropped today: "The Music of the Night" from The Phantom of the Opera... I absolutely love this piece, and the various ways you can express the music—I think I play this differently every time! I've used the HB Steinway D for this one—it's currently my daily driver (not sure why, but I guess I like to rotate around!).

More streaming services: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/kerri...-the-night (Currently on Spotify; Apple Music is lagging a little behind)

Details:

• Performed on Yamaha NU1X.
• Pianoteq 8.4.3, rendered with HB Steinway D Classical Recording (Modified). Linear velocity curve. Dynamics at 50db; no limiter. Reverb disabled (provided later using Logic's QRS). Condition at 0.25 (seed 1234)
• Edited in Logic Pro 11. The edit here is a bit more advanced than my normal flow— I merged two separate recordings because I preferred the intro of one over the other. I also modified the velocities of my original crescendo near the end to give a smoother build as I wasn't quite happy with my original dynamics.
• Mastered in Logic Pro 11.

Mastering chain:
• Pianoteq
• QRS reverb (Quantic YardStick; 1.6s reverb time; 10^4 room size; 100ms reverb delay; 1st reflection -26 db; dry 0db; reverb level -15db)
• Compressor (Vintage VCA, -40db threshold, 2:1 ratio, +3db make up, .7 knee, 26ms attack, 48ms release, -12db auto gain, no limiter)
• Linear EQ (Low Cut 50hz)
• Minor gain adjustment
• Limiter to -1db (120ms release, 2.9ms lookahead, precise mode, true peak detection)

Cheers,
~Kerri

Hello Kerri, nice to have you back again,

So beautiful and sweet. You play with such delicacy and power, it’s a real joy to listen to your playing. (as always).

This is absolutely stunning. Have to say, an wonderful talent  playing this great music. Thank you Kerri. Expressivenes, emotional playing.

You are saying: ”I absolutely love this piece, and the various ways you can express the music—I think I play this differently every time!”   - Well, I can understand that, because I feel your interpretations arise from the sensitivity of your heart.

I like how it slowly grows from the beginning, the crecendo at about 4,24 - 4,30 Wow, kind of climax 4,50 - 5,00….  And wonderfully playing ending with diminuendo, softer, the last minute close it beautifully.

Thank you so much Kerri for sharing your music in this forum.
It's become a kind of second home for me so I check in every day and listen and comment. And I'm glad that people can enjoy what I upload too, even though I'm not a pianist.

I Just found out that my post All Organteq 2 pieces has over 9,000 views, and post All my guitar pieces has over 10.000 views, which encourages me to continue on my eternal learning path to becoming a better musician

Best wishes,

Stig
