Topic: What will happen to my users presets when I update to Pianoteq 9?

Hi everyone! I'm currently on Standard 8. I've accumulated a lot of custom presets (including morphing). They're important to me—I use them for work. My question is, will they be preserved (or will they change the sound?) after upgrading to version 9?

Re: What will happen to my users presets when I update to Pianoteq 9?

I carefully compared my custom presets between V8 and V9, and the differences are subtle. Most of them work very well. It seems that this version mainly features improvements to the internal model without much revoicing, which gives good compatibility to the custom presets created in the old version. The most obvious difference I can notice is that if the sustain of your preset is longer than the default (Impedance>1.00), it will be even longer in V9. Just turning it down a bit will fix the problem.

Thank you! After the update, will I be able to use both versions, or will the new one replace the old one?

If you upgrade to version 9 on a machine which has already installed an iteration of version 8 or even any earlier, like version 7 for an example, you whether on your desktop or inside your DAW should be able to switch among any of these versions either separately or simultaneously.

Updates —not upgrades— replace, completely, existing software versions.  Some or all of those are primarily identifiable by the first numeric value appearing in any of the current software titles.  (One such is Pianoteq 9.0.1).  Only when that first integer —9 as shown by this example— is identical to the first appearing within the title of an installer, you've then an update to your current software.  And, only that replaces it!

Now do any of you guys know what's meant by the quote (below) took from PIANOTEQ changelog?

Automatic migration of projects using an older major version of Pianoteq, when that version is not available. Requires host support: Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic Pro (except automation curves), DP, ...

Many of my presets that had custom mic placements are unusable in V9.  The phasing is greatly increased in many cases.  I can still use them in V8.  The good news is that the factory presets are quite good now and only need minimal tweaks IMO.
