Topic: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

Hey, folks!

Just upgraded from 8 to 9 and I have a MainStage issue: I have a concert with several instances of Pianoteq 8, each with a different sound (Hamburg piano, New York rock piano, CP80, etc.) I converted my first one from 8 to 9, easy peasy. Each succeeding one won't open the Pianoteq editing window in order for me to select a differet preset! Any suggestions?

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

Addendum: not only will the editing window not open, but it's a symptom of the plug-in not opening an additional instance. So, in my 'keyboards' concert, I upgraded my "stock" Hamburg Steinway D, which works fine. Couldn't get P9 to open the edit window in any other patches. So I opened a *different* concert, where I was able to update my New York rock piano, then exported that patch. Imported it into the first concert, didn't try to open the editor: no sound at all.

So, for me at least, I can't fully upgrade to 9 until I can use multiple instances within the same MainStage concert, unless someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Or confirm that I've found a bug - in which case, how do I report it?

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

Just made an account to post about the exact same thing. No problem making multiple patches in Pianoteq 8, but with Pianoteq 9 only the first instance loads. Hopefully it is fixed soon!

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

I thought I'd check to confirm this was happening, and it's *not* happening on mine.  Well, let me be specific.  New empty MS concert file.  Add three blank patches.  Add a Software Instrument to each and instantiate a stereo instance of Pianoteq 9 on each patch.

How can I help troubleshoot further.

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

opened an existing Pianoteq concert, and it automagically instantiated Pianoteq 9 where an earlier version would have been...

when I clicked on the button to open the Pianoteq UI, I got this error message.

"Failed to restore saved settings. This is probably caused by a Pianoteg version mismatch."

In the past, it didn't use to automagically open the latest version of Pianoteq, it would load the old one.  Perhaps... this concert file was pre-v8?  Dunno, but it's different.

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

Okay, let me give that a try. Once I established all my concert templates, I haven't tried opening a new one in several years!

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

Intriguing - mine did _not_ autoreplace my 8 with a 9! The first one I replaced manually worked just like I was used to, but I can't get any succeeding ones to work.

FWIW: I'm on the last version of Sequoia, latest MS.

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

Nope - that did not work for me. First instance works as expected. Trying to add a second patch... okay, I hardly ever use patches! What I did was add a new Instrument Channel Strip to a blank patch, then select Pianoteq 9 as my instrument - it tries to open the edit window, but I get a spinning 'clockface of death' every time. If I click out of that, I still have a channel strip with Pianoteq 9, but it won't play any sound.

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

Not certain you can, as I need someone who can replicate my issue, but thank you!

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

I think the concert I opened on this MBP was originally v7 and that wasn't installed on this machine, so... I thought MS always said it could find the plugin and left it at that, but here indeed it opened it with v9.  I looked at the actual AU component files, and there were only v8 and v9 there.

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

okay, yeah, that actually works for me, but I'm running the Tahoe 26.1 beta 3 (on this MBP).

Modartt will have to help you further, but I thought I'd see if I could replicate the problem and couldn't.  Doesn't solve it for you but it might help them help you.

If you have any intermediate plugin hosts, such as Unify... you can host Unify in MS, and then host Pianoteq inside of Unifi (inside of MS). Really good "secret sauce" on its own, and it "tames" many plugins while running in MS.  That might work.

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

Hmmm.... never heard of such a thing, and I've been playing with MS for a decade! Sounds like it would add an extra layer of complexity & add gum to the works...

Re: Pianoteq 9 in MainStage

I have sent a message to Modartt; I'll keep y'all posted. I'm really not ready to jump into Tahoe, as I don't believe Cherry Audio nor TAL (my main non-MS plug-ins other than Pianoteq) are good to go yet, but if Modartt says that's the way to go...
