Yamaha hybrid pianos such as the N1X make use of Polyphonic Aftertouch to control the damper duration, depending on the exact key release position and speed.
In other words, the way the damper comes back is captured in real time and translated into detailed MIDI messages.
Here is a short video showing the relation between different release speeds/positions and the MIDI messages generated:

Currently, Pianoteq already has a Note Off Velocity curve, which is great.
It would be fantastic if Pianoteq 9 could also offer an option to drive this curve with Polyphonic Aftertouch instead of Note Off Velocity, for users with hybrid instruments that send this data.
This would make it possible to fully exploit the Yamaha hybrid MIDI implementation, resulting in much greater realism and precision in damper release behavior.

That's great! I also request this feature. I'm interested in controlling partial key damping without releasing the note.
I reckon the Pianoteq model is very close to being able to do this already - I was playing with the Sustained Notes Damping Aftertouch curve. I set this to a negative slope so it activates as I release the key. Currently Pianoteq completely damps the note as soon as the map value is >0. If Pianoteq could use this map to partially damp the note according to the map value then we get our feature. Pianoteq can certainly model partial damping already, using the continuous damper pedal.
This is something a lot of Pianoteq users would be able to engage with. As Olivier says, there are several midi controllers suited to this. I have a list of some other possibilities below. But basically anyone with a board with key pressure PAT, or even just channel pressure, could explore this requested feature, though it's awkward with the control being at the bottom of the key travel.
The following boards/controllers, apart from Olivier's list, may have continuous PAT control near the top of key travel:
Arturia Polybrute 12 - explicitly has settings with PAT at the top of key travel
Yamaha Montage M8x - seems to have the hardware to do this, but not the firmware. This is the one I'm hanging out for, if Yamaha put this in the firmware.
Kurzweil Midiboard - might be able to, given the note on and PAT key travel range can be apportioned.
Osmose Expressive E - might have this full key position information? Don't know what it sends for midi.
Arturia Beatstep - not a keyboard but has pressure pads that give an initial note on then PAT according to pressure, all the way to release - this is what I used to play around with the Pianoteq Aftertouch functions.
CME XKeys - this seems to be pressure pads (in a keyboard shape) so may work the same as Beatstep.
Yamaha P525 - with its fixed PAT value, could be my halfway budget option. But I don't know what happens when the key is re-pressed.
Without Pianoteq modelling this, I presume it's only the Yamaha range as Olivier specifies that actually have their sound engine modelling this partial damping?
