Topic: J.S. Bach: Das wohltemperierte Clavier, 1 teil, Nr.3 Cis-Dur BWV 848

I’ve been thinking of sharing my Bach WTC again.
I’ve completed Book II on my YouTube channel and am now working on Book I. These recordings feature a variety of instruments—organ, clavichord, harpsichord, historical fortepiano, and modern piano tuned to historical temperaments.

This time, I chose a modern piano. It’s a Steingraeber, which I’ve come to like after using it for another piece, fitted with thin felt.

YAMAHA CLP-875
Pianoteq 8.4.1
Steingraeber E-272 concert grand
Recording 3 modified with celeste pedal felt thickness 0.10
Werckmeister III

I’m just an amateur pianist with no formal musical education beyond basic piano lessons in my childhood. Until I restarted the piano about five years ago, after a very long break, I had never played Bach’s WTC.

But I simply love Bach’s music. And this is the result of my attempt to create the performance I long to hear, even if it’s limited by my technical skills.

So, please Bach police officer—go easy on me.

Prelude

Elegant. Beautiful. Well done Triton!
Listening after a long day as a caregiver I was a bit moved, but also got a smile on my face. Thank you Triton.

Fuga

This Fugue is amazing! And I think it is hard to play. Well done again Triton. And I like your playing style - not too fast, good! Thank you Triton. Waitng for next one..

And - these performances are not limited by any technical skills at all. I said I was moved, and got a smile, and it was you Triton playing. You can feel satisfied. Keep going !

Best wishes,

Stig

Hi Stig,

Thank you so much for your very kind and encouraging comment.
And I’m sorry again for my slow reply.

I think I may have been feeling a bit too nervous, but your words really encouraged me.
Thank you as always for your thoughtful and insightful comments.

I feel that my playing is being understood through your words, and at the same time, I deeply relate to how broad your musical interests are. I still remember how you played G. Shoenberg. You also play Buxtehude, Sibelius, Bartók, old ragtime, and even your own compositions. Oh, Egyptian! Etc.
I hope to play many different kinds of music myself too.

Dear Triton,

For a simple amateur, your Bach performances are truly excellent! I know the difficulty of these pieces; I played them myself several months ago. Your fugue is excellent, you played it brilliantly and lightly, truly fantastic. You're doing an extraordinary job with Bach; it's a real pleasure to listen to you. Keep up the good work!
Greetings from Italy
Carmelo
