Topic: Kinderszenen, Op. 15: VII. Träumerei

I released this rendition of Träumerei a few months ago, but my forgetful brain neglected to post it here. I think I play this differently every time—how loose I am with the timing depends greatly on my emotional state. I had several versions that I had mastered before recording this version... and I've had several since, but I quite like this one. I've also got XIII. Der Dichter spricht coming out soon and I'm polishing XII. Kind im Einschlummern and getting it ready for a release as well.

I'm keeping the same settings (more or less) across all of my Kindeszenen pieces, so this is using the U4 Tall Concert preset (modified).

Mastering Chain using Logic 11.1 Pro:
PianoTeq 8.4 (modified U4 Tall Concert, 60db, no reverb, -4 key release, -2 pedal, no limiter, .25 wear and tear), +5db (!!)
Compressor (Vintage VCA, -40db threshold, 1.3 ratio, 0.7 knee, 26ms attack, 48ms release, -12db auto gain)
Quantec Room Simulator (Based on one of the QRS Classics Concert Halls, IIRC, Quantec YardStick, 1.6s, 10^4 m^3 room size, dry 0db, reverb delay 100ms, 1st reflection -26db, reverb level -12db)
Linear EQ (Low Cut 50hz)
Normalized to -1db

Dear KerriS,

that's a really good Job on this piece by Schumann...
Maybe the only thing that doesn't convince me is on the depth of the reverb (I don't know the technical term)...
I would have reduced it a little. Anyway excellent touch and dynamism...
They give the piece a dreamy character.

Dreamy is what I was after :-) Thanks for your kind words & constructive feedback as well—given that everyone hears things differently, other perspectives are immensely valuable, so I really appreciate it :-)

Thank you so much :-) I think I was half dreaming when I recorded this—I recall it being fairly late one evening... so that probably helped w/ the dreamy feel.
