Topic: -:|:- Recording Software -:|:-

Hi everyone,

First post here . . . I was wondering if someone could please suggest a good digital piano recording software to use in concert with Pianoteq 8 Stage? Likewise, I am looking for something that has fairly user friendly capabilities and especially editing options. For example, if i am recording a piece and I would accidentally hit a wrong note, I would like to be able to easily access my recording and then delete—as well as add in—the correct note; rather than having to re-record the entire track.

I am currently using a Casio Privia PX-S3100 in concert with macOS Venture (Version 13.5.2). In addition to GarageBand, I also have WavePad Masters Edition by NCH Software, as well as Transcribe! by Seventh String Software.

I truly appreciate any sound advice and/or recommendation(s) geared towards this topic. ♫

Thanks!

Please forgive me if I’m misunderstanding your question. This answer is for a beginner that’s not sure how to start. If you’re already past this and are looking for recommendations for more capable or sophisticated software, ignore this post.

I’m not a “Mac” person, so I won’t be able to give specifics... but GarageBand should certainly be able to do what you want. Web searches will turn up detailed information and videos about how to do each of these steps.

You would want to create an instrument (MIDI) track in GarageBand and load Pianoteq as the instrument — don’t use the standalone Pianoteq.

When you record, GarageBand will record the notes you play — not the sounds they make — and also pass them on to Pianoteq to make sound. After that, you can edit the notes as desired. When you play the recording, GarageBand will send the recorded notes (as edited, if you’ve changed them) to Pianoteq to make the sound.

When you render (or whatever it’s called in GarageBand) the project, GarageBand will use Pianoteq to convert the notes into digital waveforms to store in a wav, mp3, m4a or whatever type of file you choose as the final output.

Hello Spider Fingers and welcome to the forum,

I have a Mac mini and use Garageband with it when recording and  I do exactly as you say,  if i am recording a piece and I would accidentally hit a wrong note, I can easily delete a note — as well as add in—the correct note; rather than having to re-record the entire track.

Many of the tutorials on YT are old so it depends on how new version you have. Search for such tutorial if possible. I have been using Garageband for recording since I got Pianoteq 2013 and I am satisfied, also recording with Organteq. But of course if I had money I would like to buy the big brother Logic (with even more editing possibilities).

Good luck!

Best wishes,

Stig

What about using the built in recording capabilities to capture your performance? See section 2.9.2 and 2.9.3 in the manual: https://www.modartt.com/user_manual?pro...mp;lang=en

Then bring the midi file into garage band to edit and render. Although by looking up the sections for this reply I now see that Pianoteq can render the performance to an audio file as well.

Wow, this is *exactly* what I was looking for and to be able to do. Just the same, I will not be adding a multitrack or any other instrumentation to my recordings (i.e., just solo piano); so GarageBand should fully suffice and I won't be needing a more sophisticated software such as ProTools.

Thank you so, so much everyone for your prompt replies and highly valuable insight!

All the best,

S.F.

Re: -:|:- Recording Software -:|:-

I’ve been in a similar spot, wanting something that gives me a bit more control than GarageBand but still easy enough to not kill the creative vibe. I used to spend way too long trying to edit solos on other DAWs that weren’t intuitive at all. Eventually I started using a separate video editor to stitch together my performances and fix sync with visuals when I recorded practice sessions, especially when sharing on YouTube.

For that, I found this iMovie alternative for Windows which helped a lot with polishing my final uploads. Might be worth checking on https://www.movavi.com/imovie-for-windows/ if you’re adding visuals later or want to do clean edits without switching systems.
