Topic: Please help me making realistic (dry & crisp) piano sound

Hello,

I'm a Pianoteq 8 stage user with Steinway B and Petrof instruments.

I'm striving to make realistic piano sound and need some help.
My ideal sound is very dry and crisp tone from player's perspective.
(I don't want rich sound of concert hall nor well-recorded sound.)

the link below is a perfect example of the sound I'm looking for:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sP37xHgpDHM

At the first passage(a series of CGCE notes) in this video,
I can hear a very crisp "chop chop chop chop" sound with instant hammer responses.
But in the Pianoteq, it's far more dull and "ringing" sound.

I tried some settings with a Standard trial version.
Adjusting "Damping Duration" to 0.70s is the best option by far for me, but it doesn't still sound realistic.

Please share some tips for this. I can upgrade to Standard or above if needed.
Thank you.

(Un)fortunately they haven’t modeled a crappy iPhone microphone.

I would use the stereophonic or binaural output, so there is no mic modeling.  Go to the EFFECTS and insert an EQ3 and use the “bass cut” preset.

Like you, I was a Stage user for years.  Upgrading to Standard was 100% worth it.  The ability to use virtual mics is a game-changer.  In Standard, try a “Player” preset and change the mics to pair of omni microphones (which is what iPhone mics are) and apply the same EQ cut.
