Topic: CPU usage for top few notes

I recently bought Pianoteq 8 with the Shigeru Kawai and U4 pianos. It's working mostly great on my laptop which I would expect as it has an i7-9750H processor so should be more than powerful enough for Pianoteq.

One weird thing I discovered though by chance was that if I trill the very top few notes of the piano fast and then release, I'll get the CPU overload message. This is despite my CPU utilisation according to Windows never rising above about 25%. Also this does not happen with any other keys, only the top 4 or 5.

To make it more strange, this only happens with the Shigeru Kawai and not the U4. It doesn't matter what settings I change in terms of power saving, buffer size, etc.

Do the different pianos have such vastly different CPU loads? And is there any reason this happens despite my CPU apparently not being worked that hard?

Re: CPU usage for top few notes

It is a bug, specific to instruments with the most recent soundboard model (kawai & bosendorfer), and it happens only on x86 CPUs. We will fix that in an update very soon.

Thanks for such a rapid response, fantastic support! Look forward to that update.

Hi,

we have just released version 8.4.1, which should address this issue.

This has fixed it. Pianoteq is the best money I've spent for a while, thanks for a great product!
