Topic: New video Bach @ home. Prelude n 11 in F major BWV 856 WTC 1

Dear Friends,
another small step in my journey to discover Bach's WTC 1.
Today we are in F Major, and I will try to tell you something about the Prelude: it is strictly written in two voices nearly all the way through and (with exception of two bars) might quite well be classed among the 2-part "Inventions", to which, in its whole structure, it bears a strong resemblance. Its contents, i. e. the vital power revealed in the movement of the melody, in rhythm and harmony, or, if we consider the form, the esthetic effect of the piece might be defined as active industry without haste; the bright key of F-major sparkles like morning fresh with dew, and even the key of D- minor, which appears in conjunction with it, remains free from all
bitterness and melancholy, for its most powerful harmonies
(the chords oi Bb-major and A-major) are selected by preference.

My actual setting is:

Played on Yamaha P125 piano stage                                          Video Recording Samsung Galaxy A54.
VST: Hamburg Steinway D Pianoteq Stage 8.4.0

Effortless playing and good execution of the trills. I think the difficult thing is of course those ”stupid” trills, (I never learned those correctly) that’s the great challenge, to keep the flow going -    one hand plays trills and the other hand keeps the flow going.
But you do everything excellently, everything flows and merges together! Thank you carmelo. Again, I enjoyed your playing.

I’m proud of you, and Johann Sebastian would be very proud of you too!
I encourage you to continue, you have come a long way already on your journey.  You have nothing to worry about, everything is going so well.

btw, are you going up or going down when you begin the trill?
(a rapid alternation of a note with the note immediately below or above it in the scale, sometimes further distinguished as lower mordent and upper mordent ).
I never learned that properly, so it will be a bit of a cheat….

Best wishes,

Stig

Thank you very much Stig for your comment and support...
I've come a long way on this journey, but it doesn't bother me, Bach repays every effort with interest... what wonderful pieces!!!!
Regarding the matter of trills, there is a general rule in Baroque music, the trill begins with the note higher than the one indicated and is resolved on the note indicated. However, there are several exceptions: for these recordings I relied on Busoni's revision which you can easily find on IMSLP. It's very pianistic as fingerings and Dynamics and fortunately solves all the embellishments (and therefore the problems)...
In Classical music however (from Mozart onwards) the trills always starts from the real note (exactly as it is written)...
Thanks again and Good Music!!!

Yes, it's nice.

I think your rendition would be even better with a better controller. Bach's pieces is such a pleasure to listen to.

You're really right, every piece of WTC 1 is a surprise and I myself am learning a lot since I reopened it...
They are all masterpieces.
