Topic: Both Sides Now (Pianoteq)

i hope everyone had great holidays and a happy new year.  here's a rather loose interpretation of a great song by Joni Mitchell, "Both Sides Now." this is something of a jazz standard these days thanks to Fred Hersch and Brad Mehldau.  there are many deviations from the canonical recordings here but hopefully Joni wouldn't mind too much   she seem to be rather generous with her music so i can at least imagine that she wouldn't ...

Re: Both Sides Now (Pianoteq)

I've always liked this song and my particular favourite is Roger Whittaker singing it - love his voice and whistling!

This is quite a different interpretation with more play on chords, rhythm and less on melody - nice !

Wonderful rendition and playing! Which piano model did you use?

I think I can say, when you hear great music, you will know after the first 30 seconds. This performance is one of them. This is going to be something. Great job.

I like this with more play on chords, rhythm. The melody is still there, intricately ”interwoven”. Stunning, thank you budo.

And, my usual analysis:
Nice slow intro, then from 2,05 here we go on and on , nice. Then section 3,00 - about 4,10 - love it.
And the ending - one of the better endings in a long time, like it and with a nice last chord. (you have always good endings

A good start to the new music year! Thank you budo.

Best wishes,

Stig

Fantastic work Budo!
I really envy your inventiveness and ability to search for melodies and harmonies.
I would never be able to play something decent just on a standard with harmony and voice...
I like the comfort zone in which everything is written (even if complicated).
I'm not into jazz but I like listening to it.
Your performance is intense, dense, brilliant and delicate at the same time.
What can I tell you: It's magnificent!
Keep going!

thank you for listening! i haven't heard him do this tune so i'll definitely check it out.  mostly i know the version by Judy Collins as well as Joni's own famous recording.  i think i was more inspired by the latter ...

thank you!  to be honest i'm not sure which piano this is.  i'm guessing it's one of the Kawai presets but i can't remember.  i'm unfortunately very bad about that kind of record-keeping
