Topic: Two Ensemble Pieces using Pianoteq (Kawai and Yamaha YC5)
I recently finished two tracks using Pianoteq in a virtual ensemble:
1. Dreams Wide Awake And Retold
I used the new Kawai model with tweaked velocity curve for my Casio PX5s, longer scale length, and reduced condition (0.75) and a piano solo at 2:49. This track was inspired by a conversation about waking dreams that occur early in the morning and change with retelling. It features the Expressive E Osmose playing the opening lead line with mallets and percussion sounds provided by Arturia Augmented Mallets and Reason Studios Objekt. The mallet parts came first followed by drums (Zendrum controlling Toontrack Hitmakers), piano, NS Chapman Stick, synthesizers (keyboard and LinnStrument), and guitars (rhythm and lead processed through ToneX Alex Lifeson amps). I also made use of Project SAM's Symphobia Orchestral Library for the orchestral colors.

2. Climb The Mountain
The piano in this track is a modified Yamaha YC5 I usually use for jazz oriented tracks with a tweaked velocity curve for the Casio PX5s, slightly harder hammers, longer scale length, and slightly reduced condition. This piece from a recent EP entitled “Inner Space” in honor of Zakir Hussain, tabla player from the group Shakti who passed away this month.
