Topic: Feature request: more preset variants, as suggested by Qexl

Quote from the recent 'hidden overtones' thread (Qexl): '...do you find you'd like a kind of "i" & "ii" versions for the main defaults? I'd like to fly that idea - if so feel free to post a new thread - like a feature request. Maybe you'd find support.'

Yes please, I would very much appreciate some subtle variants (lighter or darker, as appropriate) of the main presets. Also a wider range of recording styles for each piano, if possible (e.g. Close XY, Medium MS, Distant AB, Distant ORTF, etc.). If some of them were only available to Standard & Pro users (like many of the fxp uploads), I don't think many would complain about that. What do other people think?

Good on you dazric

I'd be pretty happy if perhaps a few main ones, like a few more of the recording ones had this v.2 kind of name pattering as norm (as long as users might understand, there may not be great re-voicing per each, but sometimes quite mild attenuations perhaps). I know this presents ever more work too though - eek.

Other presets do go beyond a static categorical title, and into already themselves being considered 'variant' I guess.

We do have Recording 1, 2 & 3 for most pianos - so this is already a fine thing.

But, yes - I see talk for years about 'tone' on forum as if it should be perfect (for every user in every room).. so perhaps some 'ii' versions for these might be a good way to see customers that little bit happier..

"Classical Recording" (a ii less bright, like in a darker hall = prob. the obv. one)

Thinking on it, actually that'd do it for me (without thinking too long on it).. but will love seeing what others would like to see/hear.

Cheers!

Another thing I'd like to see (I've suggested it before) is a global 'Tone Control' slider, something along the lines of the Condition slider, which would alter a cocktail of parameters in a subtle way. If Modartt wanted to make it fairly basic for Stage users (say just a few levels), and more sophisticated for Standard and Pro (a full range of subtle shades), I don't think many users would have an issue with that.

Yes, I think another "global" slider to select the tone, at least on the "darker/brighter" scale would be extremely useful in practice!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where do I find a list of all posts I upvoted? :(

Oh, I do really like your slider suggestion dazric!

That alone might very elegantly replace any ideal of 'more preset' i & ii type variants - like your idea a lot.

I can imagine a clear visual, so users who don't like EQ or have limited exposure to that stuff could plainly see "Yes, moving slider this way makes it more bassy, less treble heavy." and so on.

As far as how to make such a slider - 2 ways might be great..

I can envisage something based on parametric EQ (even the EQ3 internals might be perfect).. 'musical' bandwidths subtly expanded and collapsed depending on where the slider is.. could easily disallow 'mud' or other common issues with broad EQ - just a nice musical and super easy EQ to sit on top of the other 2 - and users wouldn't have to know about Q or other things. But.. that EQ type might include "boost" or "cut" - so you could maybe in Pro get that ability to cut instead of boost.. or even select 3 different Q settings to keep it simple but broader - or some such.. but even just the slider alone = way easier for many.

Or the other technical way of viewing this kind of control might be as a tilt kind of EQ control - called "Foundation" in some mastering systems - guessing the good ones have proprietary workings - but in essence something just based on what a tilts on the main Equalizer do might be still valuable. Maybe easier to implement - and could be just as effective.

My feature request has to do with linked microphones...

A right-click on an individual mic reveals its position in space...

I'd like a right-click on the small circle between linked mics allowing the same adjustments to easily move the coupling as a block with greater precision than mouse movement alone.

I'd also like the addition of the Ctrl / Command key as a modifier to the mouse for smaller movements and greater precision.
