Topic: Wow...
Hi all!
I've been a PTQ user for a quite a long time. I think it was around 2007 when I first downloaded its demo version. Since then I've been kind of an on-and-off user which meant to me that PTQ was a nice but not quite there yet for my purposes. I've been saying about thousand times that PTQ catches quite nicely a classical piano sound (rounded, smooth sound recorded in more or less big acoustic space). On the other hand PTQ has had more trouble of nailing "Chick Corea" type of crystal clear close miced sound. In fact there were many years when I did not practically played PTQ at all. Main reason was that my favorite company Clavia Nord got better and better and more detailed sampled piano sounds and those were good enough for my playing, gigging and recording purposes. In fact those still are.
About year ago I came back to PTQ and reason was this time not piano but it's percussion side. I must repeat myself here: PTQ percussion is great and deserves much more attention! I use mostly vibraphone (together with Xylosynth midi controller) but also other percussions on almost every gig nowadays. I certainly hope Modartt will keep developing and promoting this. I think there are many many percussion players out there which are sadly unaware of this great potential. New morphing and layering features will take it to next otherworldly level.
All this been said my main point is this: Something has happened because newest PTQ piano seems to get much closer what I've been years waiting for. There's new clarity in sound which really fascinates my ear. NY Steinway D has been able to produce a clean, clear, yet natural sound which seemed impossible before. And I haven even tweaked it too much, just little velocity and EQ.
Marvellous work from Modartt!
