If you have the Petrof pack and version 7 then the 284 is a free add on.

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Once again Modartt have been incredibly generous! Be sure to download and install version 7.3.0, then if you have the original Petrof, the Mistral will appear in your instrument list, as if by magic! There are also some note repetition improvements to all pianos, and a revoicing of the Steinway B. Oh yes, and lid removal is now an option.

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Yes, this is indeed generous, again. As my last purchases were the wonderful Bechstein and Steingraeber grands (well, then followed the tremendously beautiful Karsten collection to accompany the historical Kremsegg collections^^) - I did miss out on the Petrof 285.
Now I will install the 7.30 update, and my guess is: my old PC (2012) will still be able to handle Pianoteq without any glitches. Amazed, I will, in case the cat allows^^, play for half an hour. My girlfriend usually comes in and says "this is another most beautiful sound", because she had not heard the Petrof grands in action, even if she knows my rather humble way of playing Bach or Schumann or Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel.
This then will take me to a short minute of thoughts, or there might be 2 minutes. After which I will, I guess...buy the Petrof grands, Modartt version .

This is simply so beautiful, sit down at night, and play... Some say, well you play the Bechstein and love it that much, and the Steingraeber, the Steinways and the YC5, your historical instruments... "But this adds something" is what my girlfriend up to now said. And surely it will. Thank you all, the beta team, and all at Modartt!

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Thanks very much modartt... I was waiting for a new grand piano, here it is... and ( "cerise sur le gâteau" en français ) it's free for the one who already owns the first Petrof... I'll be able to put the 50 euros I saved for the next one (maybe a Fazioli... or a Bosendorfer... or another ...).
Very good first impression for the new Petrof...

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Better and better !

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

the new Petrof Mistral is beautiful.  thank you Modartt!

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Thank you, Modartt!

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Wow! The flagship of the PETROF brand - the Mistral concert grand. Unique sound, tremendous bass. As I remember, there is not often mentioned Petrof, when people are wishing for a new piano here.  But how lucky they chose this piano. It simply sounds so good, beautiful. I have used Steingraeber, but now Mistral Warm is my new favourite.

Thank you Modartt and Philippe, Juliette, and especially this time, Robin

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Been improvising with the Mistral...time flew! A big sound, but also delicate in the high octaves. Well balanced and voiced. Plays effortlessly , or so it seems. The basic Player preset seems just right, I didn't feel like I needed to change anything. Every tune of mine I threw at it came out great. Not sure if it will dethrone my dear Steingraeber, but I think this Mistral is going to become a favourite for many people. Well done!

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Agree with all above. Definitely generous addition!

Loving the ability to remove the lid - sought after feature, which sounds great.

And the repetition improvements - helps me in several ways, any given amount of crescendi (a hint or a torrent) is better achieved, plus also sounding more natural means I don't feel the need to labor (press so hard) any repeated note as much to achieve more realistic natural piano 'gain' from second/etc. notes.. that definitely helps me rhythmically esp. in making more stable repeating staccato patterns, as well as various trills or passing repetitive chords or bass on the left hand are now just sounding and playing so much more fluently. Nothing else like this kind of playability in a software instrument IMO.

The Petrof Mistral 284 is definitely one of my all time favorite grand pianos.

The Steinway B always has a place in my heart - and with this update, I've changed my velocity curve to allow softer tones in low ranges (I used to try push the curve a little higher to bring more tones early).. but now I feel like the low velocity range is so sweet, rich and complex that I'm more and more fleshing out low velocity playing (it's getting way better than I thought it could by now).

Very proud of the Modartt folks for this update. Another fine day for piano lovers.

Happy Pianoteq-ing!

P.S.
Re. title of the thread.. It's 284 tho, not 285

@aWc - hope this update dovetails well with your upcoming project

And there are new mic presets available if we right-click in one of the panes on the Microphones page. Or were these created earlier? Just now saw them.

Is there a list of changes for version 7.3? I don't see it on the Modartt site.

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

I just want to say a huge thank you to the whole Modartt team including beta testers and everyone who worked on the new Petrof Mistral. It is stunningly beautiful! Well done and congratulations. Thank you also for your generosity as I got it free because I already own the 275.

Thank you so much,

Warmest regards,

Chris

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

@Jake - the new mic arrays have been in for a while (I actually forget when I first saw them). Very helpful having the AB, MS, ORTF and YX placements

Remiss of me though, to not also express my heartfelt thanks to the Petrof family and teams who create and build these most excellent pianos too.

The Mistral becomes the 2nd piano using Petrof's an-echoic chamber for the originating process in Pianoteq's modelling of it. Quite a forward thinking company - and it's great to see this. Wishing every success to all.

Also Piet's piece in the video is outrageously gorgeous! (and demos) Feeling it. What a good day.

Also, wish to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who buys Pianoteq and the instruments, so that there's more likelihood of even more to come. The silent champions.

I still believe the Studio bundle represents the best value proposition in music software on the market (nearly 50yrs of music making) and that after trying to keep various other plugin libraries up to date for too long to mention.. I've never felt better money spent, than on Pianoteq Studio. Every improvement is icing on that cake. I'm living a little slice of heaven today (probably shows!).

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Thank you Modartt for this beautiful piano. I just listened to the demo of the Chopin sonata and is sounds fantastic, very clear and yet warm and full bodied and the interpretation is lovely. A perfect complement to one of my favorite pianos, the Ant. Petrof 275.

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

I have to say that for some time I wasn`t impressed too much with new pianos from Modartt, even new version was not wow for me, but this piano woke me up. Congratulations for Modartt, you brought me back. Thank you.

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Thank you Modartt for this fine re-creation of the Ant Petrof Mistral. It surely is very beautiful, with a deep, rich sonorous tone and a clear treble. This is a joy to play.
What a lovely surprise gift from Modartt!

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

I was going to buy the mistral and to my surprise I got it for free since I had the 275 already! Wow that's indeed generous, thank you Modartt made my day

Right on, sloba, the Mistral is mighty fine indeed. But do check the updated Steinway B as well, you’ll be surprised. As a whole, Pianoteq 7.3.0 is highly rewarding.

Are there any detailed information what changes they made to the Steinway B more than general revocing?

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Wow, I just found the email notification about Petrof 284 in my inbox.

I was hoping for an introductory discount - then, I found that it is included if you own Petrof 275 !
Amazing customer appreciation.

So glad I chose Petrof in my piano set when I joined the Club in December. Nothing against a good Steinway D, but it is ubiquitous. I'd much rather use unique and characterful alternatives...

(The fact that I already have a very decent "D" by way of Soniccouture's "Hammersmith" plays a part as well, ok)

Well if you felt like spending some money you could do a lot worse than the German/US Steinway D pack!

I suggest you enable the Steinway D pack demo and have a play. The excellent D has improved too, just not as much as the B (by which I mean they've done additional work on the B this time).
I have a feeling you wouldn't bother with the Hammersmith much if you had the D pack (which is also now two pianos).
The D pack has an unrivalled number of presets and substantially different tonality.
I've recently uninstalled multiple sample piano libraries. Waste of SSD space for me.

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

This is a good 'un!  All I have to do is widen the unisons, tweak up the sympathetic resonance and knock it out of tune.
Perfect!  My all-purpose piano which sounds like it gets used.  And abused .

Just returned after a couple of hours.  On going through all my instruments, I found they had one thing in common. . .they all sounded more like each other.  And  Bluthner has lost all its character!  Oh no!  So i try to re-install my previous, 7.03 and find I had to reset many of my presets since they were no longerr in "presets".
Didn't take long but I'm left wondering what's happened..

I'm playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order

For me it's most definitely the revoicing, particularly in the low and high octaves.

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Well done Modartt !
Thanks.

Changes in 7.3.0 (2021/04/07)
-Introducing Petrof 284 Mistral concert grand piano.
-Improved repetition model benefiting all acoustic pianos.
-Piano lid removal now possible (double click on lid).
-Steinway B update: bass range and upper range revoicing.

Lovely promotional video. Nice to watch it, after be distressed with the insane pandemic management in my country.

I wonder if people will find Petrof 284 the best model to try to create a Bosendorfer Imperial FXP.

I agree, it's already very, very good and they keep making it better!  Love the little enhancements in every update. I look forward to each one too see what they've added. For example, the new adjustment for Repetitions is quite nice. And of course the Mistral update is gorgeous.

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

The new Petrof mistral is so amazing! I am astonished.
Actually I feel the resonance of pianoteq's sounds which I have little bit course,
but this is so clear and pure. I love it!.
Modatt is so generous. Thank you.

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

I just read the mail about a new version and a new Petrof. Listened to the demo on youtube, thought "Maybe play the Demo version in the new version and maybe buy it" but no. apparently I already have it for free since I already own the other Petrof.

Such an amazing company! Can't wait to update and play this evening and on the weekend! Thank you!

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Already purchased this beautiful instrument after 20 minutes trying on Demo version.
It gives me a very elegant and balanced feeling compared with Petrof275 before.
Thanks Modartt!  Expect more new instruments to be added in the future, especially warm SKEX and gorgeous Fazioli.

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

Taking a look and comparing Petrof Mistral 285 with Bosendorfer 290. They are close in length, but the harp have interesting differences:

I would like to understand how the shape, number and location of the holes in the harp works to create the final sound.

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

The Mistral had an extended range variant (Mistral PL) back in the '60s
The P1 Orchestra also has the same range.
Does Petrof still offer this option for new pianos?

Re: Petrof 285 upgrade?

I like the new Petrof Mistral for the "meat" in the right hand and the Steinway B for its dynamics.

Thank you, Modartt!
