Topic: Roland fp-30 & Win 10 - No sound returned to FP-30...Possible?

Hi,
Trialling Pianoteq for the 1st time and my assumptions may be incorrect!

I have hooked the Fp-30 p via a usb cable to a Win 10 laptop. This is USB midi out. No other interface.  Downloaded and installed the ASIO drivers.
Disabled local control on the keyboard.

Currently: - pianoteq receives all the inputs from the keyboard/pedals etc correctly BUT I had assumed <!> pianoteq  would feed the sound back and I would be able to hear the pianotec output THROUGH THE KEYBOARD speakers - currently sound is (only) coming through the laptop speakers. Now I have never been a windows 10 user so I guess there may be some setting that is interfering with this or perhaps what I had expected is not possible?

Current settings under device are:
Active audio inputs : Listen to all midi inputs and Roland Digital Piano
Audio device type : ASIO
Active output channels: HD Audio output 1. and HD Audio output 2
Sample rate 44100HZ
Audio Buffer size 384 samples
Bit depth 32 bits

"Device control panel" at default settings

Under MIDI, GLOBAL MIDI MAPPING is "Full featured"

I know I can feed the output from the computers headphone port to a stand alone external sound system (The fp-30 doesn't have a line in) but I really thought that I could feed the output back over the midi connect to the Fp-30. The manual says that  "SMF data played back by midi compatible software can be sounded by the FP-30"

Have I missed something obvious or am I incorrect in my assumptions?

Cheers

The new FP30X has the built in audio interface over USB. I don't believe the FP30 unit has that.  What ASIO software are you using.  You could send MIDI out of the computer over the USB port back to the FP30 but then the Roland internal sound would be playing the sound.  For Pianoteq on you laptop you should have a audio interface and speakers attached to it.  If you had the new FP30X you would have the laptop send the audio over the USB cable back into the FP30X and hear the sounds from the FP30X speakers.

Thanks for that - Kinda what I thought after due consideration....
As mentioned the Fp-30 (not the 'X') apparently accepts SMF data only over the usb midi interface - so of course it would interpret that according to it's own sound engine I guess - I was being overly optimistic . I do have headphones and also an active amplified speaker (Roland sound cube - do not recommend it as a piano speaker ! Too boomy) as alternative testing options. The 'Phones sound fine.

Out of curiosity, does any one know if pianoteq generates SMF data in real time?
