Topic: BUG: first note distorted on switching presets Windows 10, asio

On switching presets the first note/accord sounds really bad: like faded in.

I'm using Windows 64bits, ASIO-drivers. It's also there when using Pianoteq inside a host when switching presets.

At home: just annoying; when gigging: a disaster. (I'm using a different preset for each "song".)
So if this doesn't get fixed I'm forced to use Pianoteq 6, which is a pity with all the great improvements in PQ 7.

I'm not the first reporting this, just would like to have more attention paid to this problem; not sure if it is pickup by the dev's already.

Yes! Julien asked me for more details when I raised it in the 'Pianoteq 7' thread. Not heard anything back yet, but I hope they're working on it. As far as I can work out, it seems to happen most often when switching to different pianos with different mic configurations.

Can it be due to CPU/BIOS/OS power saving management? You may want to Google about how to optimize it, RME forum seems to have some great guidelines. Maybe I'll post the link later. Check ParkControl software. Anyway all this stuff is a must have for realtime audio.

Always good to check stuff like that, but I don't think it's related; Pianoteq 6 isn't exposing this problem.

The distortion is there with presets I was already using in PTQ 6.

I noticed the problem on 2 different computers running Windows 10 64bit. ASIO4ALL or ASIO UMC (for a Behringer USB-audio device).
44100 HZ/ 64 samples as buffer. (didn't try other settings)

No problems after the first note.
I'm using mostly imported IR's as reverb.

Don't want to insist, but it looks like the processor is in some sort of sleep state, after you play the first note, it kicks in, looks like this to me. Maybe v7 is a bit more resources hungry, I don't know. Here is the optimization info to check:

No it's definitively a Pianoteq bug and it happens on Mac also. Julien certainly is aware of it, as well as the sound surge that sometimes happens when switching presets. The fade-in effect is easily reproducible but it happens only when presets are first loaded, and I suspect it may be related to the sound surge that is much more random...

My impression is that it's a really hard to track bug due to the many Pianoteq engines running in parallel in version 7 and the increases use of threads. There are always some sound buffers containing data that have to be stopped immediately when a context switch happens without any audible glitch. That's hard! It may also be a JUCE bug that Julien is waiting on getting fixed, I don't know, just guessing...

Definitely a bug. I’m also seeing this on ARM when switching between instruments.

Re: BUG: first note distorted on switching presets Windows 10, asio

I've noticed it too.

So far, it looks to me as if it can be avoided by clicking the "All Notes Off" button (exclamation point above the right end of the keyboard) after changing the preset and before playing a note in the new preset.

Same problem, when switched presets, the first note was abnormal, and then it was OK. Win10 Asio

The new 7.0.4 version fixes these problems.
