Is it possible to get a thicker tone out of the piano from using different mic settings?

Possibly.  Please try this and tell what about it solves your problem and what doesn't: https://forum.modartt.com/file/3h1he8ku

Excellent video, full of useful info. I had to smile when you said something about 'infinite adjustments' because that's the thing that often defeats me when I try to do my own mic settings. So many ways to turn those mics and every tiny movement will change the sound. How do you make sensible decisions about the fine adjustments?
If you'd be willing to upload some demo configurations for the 1899 Bechstein that would be wonderful!

Hey TM,

Yeah that sounds nice and bit fuller and more clinical and hasn't got as many frequencies jumping around too which is nice it makes the sound easier to control.

I wonder how you would go about getting this piano sound?
