Topic: Note Edit Question

The Note Edit has a “Smooth” function, and I’m assuming that this effect is the same for all curves, found in Note Edit, otherwise my specific interest would be the “Spectrum Profile”. The question is does anyone know what smoothing algorithm(s) are being used by Pteq? Thanks in advance...

Re: Note Edit Question

I don't know... but starting with a single high value on a overtone, the smoothing turns the peak to a gaussian like curve

EDIT: they definetively do something gaussian like... overtones intensity fit very well gaussian curves, and variance grows linearly which each smoothing step.

Re: Note Edit Question

Well... It might look gaussian, the speed of the effect suggests something else, but I’m guessing. Regardless for simplicity, I implemented an 88-note moving symmetric boxcar filter on a full spectrum profile text, with variable width and iteration parameters. On a 5,2 it looks close to moving the cursor about a ¼ down from the smoothing tab, but slightly different. With enough passes I guess it’ll start to look gaussian...  Since there are very marginal differences, I was curious as to the actual pteq algorithm used
