Topic: Copying preferences from one computer to another?

High all,

is it possible to copy the preferences I made (on my Linux machine) to another (Mac)?
I found the prefs-file (/home/ulrich/.config/Modartt/Pianoteq67 STAGE.prefs) but it also seems to contain licence information.
Now, my Mac has its own licence. And just copying the prefs-file might interfere.
Also, I don't even know where to put this file on my Mac anyway.

Does anybody has an answer to this?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Copying preferences from one computer to another?

What specific preferences are you trying to copy?

If they're instrument settings, save them as an FXP to port them between computers, and that won't cause any problems between OSes or licenses.  If it's global MIDI I/O settings, those can be saved as separate files as well.  The only preferences that can't really be saved in a portable format would be the Device Settings, which will be specific to each computer in way that isn't naturally portable.

I wouldn't recommend copying any preferences file directly.  If you can find some subset of settings that can be saved as a new, portable file that will be the best solution.

Thanks, good to know! Does this apply to Organteq as well?

It's MIDI mapping and the presets. I can save them, but I haven't figured out how to save them as a separate file. Or it is already saved as a separate file, but I cannot find it.

[edit]
I found them. They are in separate folders I was not aware of:
The presets: /home/ulrich/.local/share/Modartt/Pianoteq/Presets/
MIDI mappings: /home/ulrich/.local/share/Modartt/Pianoteq/MidiMappings/

Now, I have to figure out where they are stored on a Mac ...

On a Mac it's: /Users/ulrich/Library/Application Support/Modartt/Pianoteq/Presets

Yes, but there are a few non-trivial differences as Organteq doesn't have an identical setup to PTQ for some preferences and settings.  (Plus there are still some bugs with MIDI data routing or the application not remembering all previous settings in some cases.)
