Topic: Serpentine 1 on Organteq

One of my compositions played on my rudimentary MIDI organ (currently just one manual (bought from MIDIworks.ca), but still lacking a 2nd manual, a pedalboard, expression pedal, etc.) using Organteq (just one stop combination, so very rudimentary setup and performance at present).

Edit-- I had been listening to this piece using my fairly nice headphones and studio monitor speakers, but I just listened to it on my laptop computer with its tiny speakers and it sounds bizarre and musically almost incomprehensible, like frenetic trash.

Fantastic! This sounds like a music world that is not normally associated with organ music. You can make yourself known for unique organ playing! Listening to this, I really think that you have created a very own musical platform within the organ world. Have said before that I haven’t heard anyone play like your style. In other words:  Doonan style and Organteq - what a nice combination they make! I’m really happy for you. Keep going!

Re: Serpentine 1 on Organteq

Very nice, Stephen ... also nice video composition.  Looks like you are going to 'grow' into a multi-manual project eventually with that keyboard you have.  Like the vintage keys.

Re: Serpentine 1 on Organteq

Thank you, PianoteqEnthusiast and Lanny.

I'm looking forward to try to develop some appropriate organ technique and to compose some pieces more idiomatic of organ with pedalboard and expression pedal. The lack of a sustain pedal will require some adjustment. Having an Organteq pipe organ in the house certainly makes me want to explore the possibilities.

Lanny, the wooden keys feel good under the fingers, with a very nice amount of friction versus smoothness.

"Lanny, the wooden keys feel good under the fingers, with a very nice amount of friction versus smoothness."  I AM SURE.

I LIKE IT,

Lanny

I see you play in your sock feet ... Eliane Elias does that too ... so do I!

Re: Serpentine 1 on Organteq

Very nice composition, I like it so much !
Too bad there's only one keyboard.
But in this case what is missing is a sostenuto pedal to hook up the basses, rather than a sustain pedal.
I have the same problem with my Studiologic SL 990 Pro keyboard.
I have not yet produced a presentable composition with organteq...

I've ordered a two-octave pedalboard (25 notes rather than an organ's typical 32, but otherwise constructed fairly similarly with long wooden pedals for heel-toe technique), and that might help to play sustained bass notes while the hands are jumping around on the keyboard.

This piece seems to be harmonically dense enough that, played on an organ with its own dense sonorities, sounds rather bizarre on the small speakers of a phone, tablet or laptop computer, rather than through more full-spectrum headphones or external speakers.
