Topic: reactivate Pianoteq on computer

I want to reactivate Pianoteq on a laptop that I used to have it on.
I am hoping to hear back from support, but does anyone know if they ever allow that?
also, I would like to have Pianoteq on 4 computers. do they ever allow that?

Re: reactivate Pianoteq on computer

You can only have 3 activations simultaneously, and if you already had Pianoteq installed on a machine, but then reinstalled OS or something, you weren't supposed to deactivate it at all. It says so in the "Manage activations" part of your user area:

"If you will reformat or upgrade your operating system, you should not deactivate since the new installation will use the same activation slot.

Warning: Once you deactivate a computer, you will no longer be able to activate Pianoteq on that computer again."

Hard work and guts!

Re: reactivate Pianoteq on computer

If you deactivated Pianoteq on that PC, you can´t use it anymore on that PC.
Max number of simultaneous computers is 3, for 4 you will need another license.

Those topics are clearly described at pianoteq.com website

May I install Pianoteq on more than one computer?
Yes, you may install it on up to 3 computers of your own. You are not bound to any specific operating system, thus you may install e.g. a Windows version on the first computer, MacOS on the second and Linux on the third.

I bought a new computer. How do I deactivate the licence on the old one?
You can deactivate the old computer in the user area. After logging in, click on the "Manage activations" link. Only deactivate computers you no longer use. Once you deactivate a certain computer, you will no longer be able to activate it again, even if you reformat or change operating system.

Re: reactivate Pianoteq on computer

thank you very much guys.
I am hoping they will allow it anyway.

Why would they have a system like this? I'm nervous because my Pianoteq 7 upgrade won't activate and it says my computer may be deactivated, which I definitely didn't do. Pianoteq 6 still works. So if the activation screwed up could it basically brick my computer for Pianoteq 7? Or can they reactivate a computer in special circumstances? All I know is that I bought 7 and I can't use it and I haven't heard anything from tech support after a couple of days.

Re: reactivate Pianoteq on computer

I'm interested in purchasing Pianoteq 7, but I am also nervous about this weird floating license restriction.

I find it odd that once the license is deactivated from a computer, it can never be re-activated on that computer. How easy is it to accidentally deactivate a computer from either the web interface or from the software? I would hate to accidentally deactivate it and then be forced to buy a new PC to use Pianoteq. (or is it a simple matter of changing the machine/host name on the PC?)

If the license can be deactivated from the SW, will there be a prompt to enter my Modartt acount password to confirm? If not then that may mean I should not allow my kids to play with this system for fear of deactivation.

Re: reactivate Pianoteq on computer

Long time Pianoteq user, I find their activation system totally fine. You have 3 slots (PCs) for activation, there is no way of "accidently" deactivating it on your PC. You have to do it from the Pianoteq website from the user area. My guess is that it is done due to software piracy reasons. There is nothing to worry about for a casual user. I strongly believe that in some very rare cases when someone somehow happen to screw things up, it will be possible for the support team to make an exception for a certain case and re-activate the PC in question, although I can't be speaking for them and be 100% sure. I think there is nothing to worry about. Uninstall or reformatting a HD/SSD does not make it deactivated.

Re: reactivate Pianoteq on computer

I have a different problem: Have got a few Mac-Minis and they happen to have the same name....!!!  (given by the OS when I installed them).......

No I could of course change the names, BUT: I really do not know which is which.....So when I deactivate one in order to free up  a slot for a new PC that I have, it could be that I de-activate the one that is not intended.....

Does some one has ideas??

greetings,

Geert

From activation management page in the user area:

Note: if you want to rename your hardware, do this from the software under "Help > About > Update licence".

Re: reactivate Pianoteq on computer

Assuming that not all of the Minis are PianoTeq-activated, disconnect all of them from your sound system, and then use them with PianoTeq one at a time. Only the activated one or ones will work. Pianoteq will recognize the activated ones even though you can't.

Then rename them or put a physical labels on them, or both!

That happened to me.  It is really not difficult to momentarily become confused or reflexively click the wrong button and deactivate the very computer you were intending to preserve.   Modartt gave me no trouble.  I emailed them within minutes of making the mistake.

Re: reactivate Pianoteq on computer

I am just considering getting Pianoteq and have same considerations.

It's great to hear that in case you made mistake or deactivating by accident the support will help you.

I really worry if for any reason you will need to go back to the old computer (got new one, but it was crap, so you sold it and want to use the old one again) would support also listen to the specific case and help you to re-activate the old machine as long as your case is genuine and not malicious

I’m sure they will.
