Topic: FXP Site request: Ability to upload and share mic presets

It may be user-error, but I can't find a way to upload an mfxp file to the FXP Corner page. (An mfxp is the settings file created when we right-click on one of the mics panes on the Mics page, and click on Save As.) My experience, based on a few attempts over 15 minutes, is that if we go to the FXP Corner page, and click the Upload an FXP button, the interface can't even see the mfxp files--they don't appear in the file list. I tried to trick the interface by opening this same list of files, and then copying an mfxp file into it. The file then appeared in the list. However, after I uploaded the file, it did not appear on the FXP Corner.

Sorry if I'm just not finding the correct steps, here. In any case, it would be great to be able to share the mic files directly. We can, of course, download the entire fxp that includes the mfxp, but if we could share just the mfxp's, we could experiment with swapping out mic arrays on various instruments more easily.

And we would in this way create common names for the arrays. Now, if we download the fxp containing a new mic array, we can of course go to the Mics page and save the array, but we will be creating our own name for it, and each user will thus have a private name for the array, and really can't discuss it easily with others. Creating a shared collection of these mfxp files would let us all have the same files with the same names, and encourage more communication, more sharing, and thus more experiments?

Gets my vote.

I tried doing that with "shared files" once before but it doesn't seem to work for these "mini-fxps".

Re: FXP Site request: Ability to upload and share mic presets

Just tried an experiment and found that, if one downloads and opens an fxp in which the creator saved a mic preset on the Mics page, Pianoteq does not add the included Mic preset automatically to one's list of Mic presets. It DOES use the settings for the Mic preset in the fxp, of course. And if I right-click in one of the Mics panes, the dropdown list lets me choose to save the alien Mic preset, but one must know to right-click to do so, or the alien will die when I change presets. Of course, the fxp retains the settings from the alien Mic preset; I just can't call up the mic preset as a mic preset.

Understandable behavior, all in all. Still, it would be nice to be able to upload and share mic presets, and thus create a body of shared experiments that we can all draw on without having to load an fxp and then remember to save the mic preset.

The preset that I created may be of interest on its own--it uses two C414 mics in figure-8 mode set near the middle of the keyboard with one mic facing down the strings and the other facing down towards the soundboard. Not a radically different sound, but solid. Based on the YC5 Home preset, with everything kept the same except for the mic preset, which also changes the relative amplitudes of the left and right outputs. Duo mono recording, I guess this would be called, since both mics are near the center and the outout is raised in both channels for both mics. (Remember to save the mic preset...):  https://www.forum-pianoteq.com/file/165jlnsl

This preset being used on Doug McKenzie's MIDI solo piano file named "New Orleans": https://www.forum-pianoteq.com/download.php?id=3481
