Topic: Ver 6.2.2 released

The sun hasn't risen yet in Florida, but I awoke this morning to a thunderstorm and discovered a new Pianoteq available - 6.2.2.  I haven't played with convolution reverb in stereo, but now I could if I wanted.  And, despite the rainstorm that awoke me, the Bluethner has 'dried-out' a bit, regaining much of its pre-6.2 character.  Nice job, guys!

Re: Ver 6.2.2 released

I would like to learn a little more about working with stereo reverb pulses in Pianoteq

Re: Ver 6.2.2 released

You'd need to have true stereo impulses for that to work. For example:

Hard work and guts!

Re: Ver 6.2.2 released

Yes, these impulses now sound much better, with the sound moving from one ear to the other in headphones with standard two channel output. I suppose using real 4 channel output with 4 speakers might give some nice results. Didn't think of comparing before updating, though, so I only rely on memory.

Re: Ver 6.2.2 released

No, you don't need 4 speakers for true stereo impulses. They are meant for stereo reproduction.

Hard work and guts!

But what about those that are labeled as 4-channels?

Thank!

They are again true stereo impulses - they just have L and R stereo impulses in just one WAV file. Certain IR loaders support this format. Doesn't mean they need 4 speakers/outputs to work properly, at all.

Ok, thanks for the info!

Here is my understanding. To add "a sense of space" to a normal 2-channel stereo audio, each channel should be processed individually, so TWO impulses are required at least. And after IR, sound from each single channel will exists in two channels. If you have a audio clip which contains sound only in left channel, using a true-stereo impulse, you will hear the reverbed sound in both two channels. 2×2 means that there are 2 seperate impulses, one for the left and another for the right, and each impulse has 2 channels. True stereo IR works like this: reverb each channel into a STEREO simultaneously, and mix them up. If not worked right, the reverbed sound in each channel will stay in  the same channel where it is from, muchless the sense of space.
