Topic: continuous velocity for MPE

Could the current Pianoteq engine change the velocity of a continued sound?
That would be great for MPE (aftertouch or slide): you could strike the key softly and press to get the different characteristic of a harder strike. Continuously. This means that the sound must be recalculated for a different velocity and played from the current time offset, not the beginning.

Re: continuous velocity for MPE

Velocity is not a continuous parameter, so no.

Hard work and guts!

How hard would it be to *make* it a continuous parameter? If there is enough interest, perhaps the developers could be motivated to introduce it. Perhaps it is trivial, perhaps it is near impossible. IDK.

Re: continuous velocity for MPE

It cannot be made into a continuous parameter - this is not how velocity works in MIDI (and consequently - MPE). It is only set on a "note on" event, and doesn't change for the duration of that note event.

Hard work and guts!

Re: continuous velocity for MPE

Yepp, velocity is part of the note on event.

But it would be nice if we could map "exciter pressure" to e.g. aftertouch. By default this could be set to velocity, but could e.g. be changed to Aftertouch for controllers that support it.
Doesn't make sense of course for usual, real pianos with hammers or usual plucked instruments.
But who says that a piano, clavichord, harp or guitar couldn't be - bowed (as bow exciters are currently not supported this might be more a feature request for Violinteq than Pianoteq though )

Edit's edit: most of the points I brought up (and wondered why they don't work anymore even though they did in previous Pianoteq versions) indeed still work as expected. Turned out to be a problem with the used host, sorry for the confusion. So only this point remains:
* Currently the timbre of a note is apparently only decided based on the note number, not on note number + pitch bend. Thus C5 bent down to C4 sounds different than C3 bent up to C4.

Re: continuous velocity for MPE

Love to see full MPE on the pro version of Pianoteq, no reason why the designer cannot incorporate this.

Would also like to see an optional ADSR Envelope function added to the pro version to allow soundscape abilities. Probably to add an ADSR would restrict polyphony when active (set to 'off' as default) but still it would sound amazing for film soundtracks.
