Topic: Looking for good wurli and rhodes

Just bought pianoteq stage and am unhappy. Should have downloaded trial first but didn't think i needed to as a friend i trust said i should just buy it that it was great and had imminent session requiring rhodes. Session went down in flames as client unhappy with rhodes and wurli sounds, as was I. The piano was pretty good but I already had Ivory so it was a waste of money. Clav not bad.

Anyone know a good plug for wurli/rhodes? I've bought, repaired and sold over 75 rhodes including one to Josh Groban and 20 wurli's so i know what they sound like and I want something that's at least 75% of the way there. Needs to have different fourier series for each note if modeled, not a transposition that sounds like a synth. Thx, Don

It does have that, Pianoteq doesn't use samples so there's no transposition.

Hard work and guts!

Re: Looking for good wurli and rhodes

I know it's modeled but the model for each note sounds transposed and synth-like.

I have a Nord Electro 6 and the Wurli is leaps and bounds better than the one that I bought with Pianoteq. I would love to get my money back on the electric piano sound pack.

I love the acoustic pianos that Modart do but the EPs and especially the Wurli which I play a lot is a huge dissapointment, especialy the lack of bark and key release notes and noises which Nord have completely mastered. I do wish that Pianoteq would improve on their Wurli

Hi Don! Another French company, Arturia, also produces Wurli and Rhodes plug-ins. I am into classical piano playing, so no experience at all with electric pianos.

Here are a couple of links:

They have demos and videos before you buy. Please report back when you find the right plug-in as many here will find it useful coming from someone who has firsthand experience with these instruments.

Re: Looking for good wurli and rhodes

You already have a great plug for EPs, but unfortunately it needs upgrading to Standard.
As you are considering throwing money at a different VST consider doing that instead.
At very least demo Standard, don't just rely on the presets, make changes. I can understand though if you didn't want to on principal. Stage should have more killer presets.

If the EPs are important to you I suggest upgrading to Standard. then you can tailor the presets to your own tastes and use the FXPs in the FXP Corner too. You may be left scratching your head wondering why a few changes can make it sound so much more to your liking. You can make the presets livelier, more raw, more vibrant, more mechanically characterful, not sounding like they were recorded under a blanket.

Re: Looking for good wurli and rhodes

Pianoteq is my only piano plugin. I sold my Arturia Piano IV because I wasn't using it. I played with Arturia's EPs, and I didn't like the presets.
I think that AAS Lounge Lizard 4 sounds the very best for EPs and is so intuitive as far as tweaking. It's also modeled. You can get very traditional sounds and completely out of this world sounds - just like Pianoteq.

Yeah, Pianoteq is all I need for acoustic pianos, including the acoustic/electric grand CP80.

If your published specifications (copied here) haven't been updated you really should get Pianoteq 7. It's a relatively inexpensive great upgrade.

Yeah, Pianoteq 7 absolutely rocks.
