Topic: sound is just not right

Does the USB-cable from my notebook to the audio-interface transmit audio-data? Maybe I just have a bad quality USB-cable. Today I got my new monitors and played over them and the sound is somehow weird. No detail, some notes are harsh and sharp without soul. It's not like I enjoyed this playing. Well, there is the break-in time for the speakers but anyhow it shouldn't sound like this. When I connected my tablet via RCA to my audio-interface I really couldn't believe it how good the sound is. It is not the speaker, that's for sure. I tweaked everything around and tested different pianos, but I like my YC5 and the K2. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't play Pianoteq for hours. Should I change this cheap USB-cable for a better one? I don't even know any more where I got it from.

thanks to all for your help,

Otis

Not at all. Only digital data travelling by the USB cable.

Re: sound is just not right

If you were to record the digital output of Pianoteq, and then play back the recording based upon the USB output source, how would it sound to you?  Good or bad?  (I notice you mentioned how good it did sound when you used an RCA connection to the audio interface.)

If you have an example of Pianoteq sounding bad in a rendered recording from the USB output, please post it somewhere so everyone will be able to help you.

Cheers,

Joe
