Topic: No sound from Speakers

I tried looking for other posts on this problem, but couldn't find one. I did post somewhile ago on the same thing, but couldnt remember how it was resolved.
I have sound from my keyboard, when disconnected from Pianoteq.
When playing notes, the virtual keyboard shows as playing.
I have ASIO4ALL installed and my sound card is a CMedia CM8738
In Audio/MIDI Set up
Active MIDI inputs
Listen to all MIDI Inputs
2-MPU-401
USB MIDI Cable Highlighted
Audio Device: ASIO
Device: ASIO4ALL v2
Avtive output channels: HD Audio SPDIF Out 1
                                   HD Audio SPDIF Out 2
Device Control Panel:
CM18738/c3dx Audio device.
Advice would be much appreciated
Jim

Re: No sound from Speakers

You are using the SPIDF ouptus...
Look for something like "HD speaker output" or "HD audio output" or "HD line output"... turn this other output on and off the SPIDF output.
By the way, SPIDF is for digital speakers.

Re: No sound from Speakers

Thank you very much for your most welcome reply Marcos. I tried highlighting HD Speaker and Audio outlets without success and so I took out the sound card and with only HD Outlets highlighted was able to get sound.
This is surprising as the sound card has always been there.
Does a sound card in the event of highlighting HD Outlets, make a difference in the quality of sound in Pianoteq?
Thank you once again for getting my sound back, as I have had several days of frustration.
Regards Jim

I don't think so. Let's say in this way: Pianoteq creates the sound, sends it to the sound card, finally the sound card converts the digital sounds to analog, amplifies it and you get it as an analog signal from the headphones Jack. The fidelity of this signal depends on the quality of your PC components. Laptos usually have good audio interfaces, but among desktop PCs, at least until some years ago, it was usual to find horrible sound chips.
By the other side, the SPIDF output (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) transmits digital data through a coaxial cable or a optical fiber, some studio monitors have digital inputs, the most common devices with this interface are home theaters.
Specially with optic fiber, the signal is immune to noise, and the conversion to analog is done at amplifier / speaker. So if the digital to analog converter of the speaker is better than the one your pc has inside, the sound will be better, but at this point I'm a bit suspicious about how fair a general comparation would be. The main point is that to use the digital ouptut, we need a speaker system with digital input.

Re: No sound from Speakers

Thank you Marcos for your interesting account on the way sound is produced.
I recently purchased a Behringer U Phoria UM2. It is an Audio interface. I saw in on youtube. I dont know if it will be of any use, but I will give it a try
