Topic: Higher audio quality with higher internal sample rate (Pro version)?

Hi,
I hav e been using Pianoteq standard for the last 3-4 years or so (Standard version). I don't think I really need most features like editing individual notes, however I would like to know whether higher sound quality can be achieved by raising the internal sample rate to 96 or 192KHz. As this is only possible on the pro version, I cannot test it.
And of course I know that this ist more demanding on the cpu....

Has anybody  experience on the audio quality question?

Re: Higher audio quality with higher internal sample rate (Pro version)?

Hello,

I can not say that the sound is better at 96kHz instead of 48kHz.
I am not sure one can hear a difference. I don't know if serious tests with a search for a statistical proof have been made on that.
This remains very subjective I think.

Now, the only argument that could lead me to play at 96kHz instead of 48kHz is to increase the buffer size if I want to stay at the same latency level. As you know (maybe not), the latency will be the same at 48000/64 or 96000/128 but with this last setting, things will be a little more comfortable for the soundcard.

I can't even think to try at 192kHz. No need for me. Nothing that justifies that IMO.

Re: Higher audio quality with higher internal sample rate (Pro version)?

I think 96 kHz or 192 kHz don't bring an audible advantage really. Some recent trials seemed to show a very slightly better modeling advantage (no higher frequencies generated, just slightly more detail) at higher rates for low frequencies with lots of harmonics, but this is debatable and was never confirmed.

See for instance: http://www.forum-pianoteq.com/viewtopic...11#p950611

Those higher sample rate are there for compatibility in projects that need to do a lot of sound manipulation in a mix and use those rates just as a margin of safety during computing.

Initially, you will not notice the difference. But if you spend the hours in comparison, then you can find the difference. Yes, Pianoteq, at higher sampling rates, makes a more subtle miscalculation. The difference can be in the softer and more realistic spatiality of sound. And yes, I want a more powerful processor to go with 192kHz. (and in the future and 32bit with a new card.)

By the way, Pianoteq supports 32 bits if it is possible hardware ???? The edge of the ear heard that 32 bits are more natural for processor processing. Will not 32 bits lead to better performance than 24bit?
